Hi,

I have been looking at the Case single-blade sowbelly. It seems to be available from a couple of sources either as a Carhart handled special, or with picked blue bone. The handle looks like it might be a really comfortable shape, or maybe it will just feel weird? I'm not sure which, and I can't find one to try. Have any of you handled one?

What I like about it,
single blade
pocketable size 3 7/8, a little large, but OK?
clip blade

Not so much, try-steel. I like carbon steel a little better, but I'm not much of a steel snob, so that's OK.

Does anyone else make a similar pattern?

I checked one out locally. It was what I think is called Pacific Blue Bone. It was a very light blue, more of what I would call "Baby Blue". The covers were not fit very well against the bolsters.

But, had it been CV, and Chestnut Bone or Amber Bone, and better fit, it would be here at my house.

I really liked how thin it was. Sorry I can't offer more.

There's a photo of one on Knifework's website, but it looks like an entirely different blue.

I have the Carhartt and the Pacific Blue Bone. I have all the Case knives from the Pacific Blue Bone run, very nice. anyway the Carhartt has the cool brushed bolsters and I like the a lot, satinized (sp) I believe its called. the Single blade Sowbelly is the best one I think. Iprefer SS blades and im glad the ones I have are. The Sowbelly fits perfectly in my hands.Love the Sowbelly. Fit and finish on both of mine were perfect. blades centered as well.

I have the sowbelly stockman and I like it a lot. I haven't handled the single blade though.

Here's an initial impression of a Amber Winterbottom Bone one I'd won over a year ago at a giveaway here on the forums...

Mail came Saturday while I was out splittin', haulin' and stackin' 2 cords of firewood for the fireplace at home so when I came home and the Mrs. handed me a Priority Mail box I knew the knife I'd won from TLARbb on the Traditional Forums here at BFC was here at last.

I've never had, held or owned a Sowbelly before and it was a pattern I'd never considered ownin', so when the opportunity to win one in a giveaway I threw my name in the hat.

The fact that it had Winterbottom bone scales, (my favorite type of scales) just cinched it.

I forgot all about till I saw the notification from Ed that I had won the giveaway so when it came on Saturday I was chompin' at the bit to check this baby out.

All I can say is WOW, what a beautiful knife, the scales are gorgeous, the F&F are superb, I own one other Case/Bose knife, (a Chestnut Bone Swayback Jack in CV) also won here @ BFC, I've come to the conclusion that if it has a TB prefix in the Case pattern # it's gonna be a great knife.

I don't know why but I thought this was gonna be a bigger knife, happily it's midsize and bein' a single blade it's slim profile rides very nicely in the watch pocket.

I love the attention to detail that some of the other companies don't address, like how the bolsters actually cover the end of the tang where the sharp corner's usually exposed. The slim profile and perfectly centered blade make this a perfect EDC user, scales match perfectly and the jigging is very deep offerin' great grip on a slim knife.

Outta da box sharpness, well like most production companies out there, fell a little short of a butter knife but all it was, a wire edge that had to be cleaned up, 2 minutes on the bench hone and it was good to go.

Now at well over a year of carrying it around I love it, I was never a big fan of traditional single blade folders but this knife has changed my mind. The knife is a perfect size with a slim frame that fits my hand well it handles well, I use it for everything from food prep to general outdoor activities.

I have the stainless blade and I love it, takes and holds a decent edge. Like any Case/Bose collaboration this knife has all the little touches, sunken joints, the back spring is flush when open and close, F&F is fantastic. I would highly recommend this knife, just inspect it first if you can, I've never had an issue with any case knife but I have heard some complaints. I do have one pet peeve and that's not coming with a sharp blade although I resharpen all my knives anyway it's all I can complain about.

I had the Carhartt Single Blade Sowbelly. Great Knife! The Single Blade/Single Spring design makes a light carry. F&F was pretty good for a Case.

This, like all of the Case/Bose regular production pieces I own (Backpocket, Swayback Jack, Saddlehorn, etc.), is a cut above the standard production line in fit and finish, in my experience. It also happens to be my favorite length traditional to carry and it's almost the opposite handle shape of a congress pattern (but with a hump near the rear), which I also find to be most comfortable in hand, for push cuts, pull cuts and slicing (pretty much any way you choose to grab it). Highly recommended!

As an owner of 30+ Case folders (I know, not that many to a TRUE Case collector), I would highly recommend the 2016 S.H.O.T. Show smooth ebony wood sowbelly. This is by far the best Case knife I own, with quality that rivals GEC’s best. The transition from wood scales to bolsters is perfectly smooth, the ebony wood gives it a very classic look, pins are all smooth with the scales, pull is perfect: strong but not a nail-breaker, the blade grind is perfect and extremely sharp out of the box. The propeller shield really compliments the dark wood. This gem comes with a Case/ Shot Show C.O.A in a clear vinyl sleeve, if that’s important to you. The ergos on this knife are outstanding . I bought 2, 1 for a safe queen and a user I carry in a black Greg Stevens leather pocket slip. Every time I pull it out I’m asked about it and if they’re still available. I believe they can still be found on EBay and some knife sites. If you want a single blade sowbelly, for a bargain price ($60-$70 I think), this should definitely be on your list!

Necroposting is greatly discouraged.
On top of that, this write up of yours would have been fine with its own thread.

I am glad you like it, does it have a CV or SS blade?

Eta, found it. Stainless bladed. I carry a single Sowbelly, but mine is a JH Lloyd in 52100.
