Last Sunday I bought what I believe is a great hand made knife. The maker was Fred Slee. He is a voting member of the Knifemaker's Guild but I can't find much about him in any forums (or on the internet anywhere). I am interested to hear your opinions about his work.

Thanks, PJC

Fred just came to my attention at that show as well. His work is VERY good. He is mentioned a couple of times in the thread Opinions on Daggers. Check it out.

I have one of his lockback folders right now. I bought it to resell, and I'm having a HARD time parting with it!! Something else will probably go...

Look at the bolsters. There are NO pin marks whatsoever, nor is there any distinction between the liner and the bolster. Now THAT takes skill! And his filework is as good as any with a difficult pattern.

I met Fred at the Chesapeake show and purchased the beautiful dagger that is in the "Opinions on daggers' thread. His quality seems right up there with the best of them, and his designs do as well. Here is what one person said about Fred

"Fred Slee is a longtime Knifemaking Guild member, and was an aircraft technician for nearly forty years. He continues to make knives, but only at his meticulous pace...His attention to detail and execution matches the very best in our field."

Here's another beaut that I just got by Fred, and I think it defines everything that a Bowie should be... (the beautiful picture is by Jim Cooper).

I for one will be on the lookout for any Slee knives in the future!
