I just ordered a Kershaw Gent's Folder. It has the VG-10 blade and black micarta scales with brass liners. I am curious of what opinions are out there on this knife. Any feedback from people that have owned one? Thanks.

I'm also curious about this one, because it looks really nice in pictures......but I have to tell you Johnny b good, G-10 and Micarta are both handle materials!! The knife that I've been looking at has a blade attached to it as well;)

Cheers,
Jon

Jon, Thanks for the reply and for pointing out my error in stating the blade was G10. Actually, I did realize my ommission prior to reading your post and have edited my original post. Black micarta has always been my favorite handle material and this is the main factor motivating my purchase. It will be my first blade with this particular steel.

No problem, JB Good, I hope you don't mind gettin' razzed just a bit. I really do want to pick up that knife. It would be great for nights out with the wife when you're somplace nice and don't want to whip out your Spec Bump!!

Cheers,
Jon

I purchased mine on E bay for a reasonable price. They list for about $119. and AG Russell lists them for $89. and indicate they are a limited production run item. I am paying $64.99 and $4.75 shipping from an outfit called Your Knife Connection that has excellent feedback ratings. I can't wait to get it after reading the other posts about this knife.
Thanks to all those that responded to my inquiry.

It is a sweet knife, of all the Kershaws I have owed, it's the only one I've kept.

1) perfect blade shape, grinds, edge, everything
2) perfect lock-up - ZERO blade play in any direction
3) great retro look and feel, with brass liners and all

It really can't be beat, and the sheath it comes with is super functional and unobtrusive.

Get it.

I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes, but while G10 & Micarta are indeed handle materials, "VG-10" is in fact a type of steel.

VG-10 Steel

Great knife by the way, I might have to add it to my collection.

Hello Elarski,

Jonnymac44 was responding to my original post where in I omitted the "V" in VG-10. I added the V after his reply.
Thanks for your reply. I'll post my impressions of this knife after I receive it. It sounds like those that have one really think it is a very good knife.

2Brothers is right about the URL being posted on the forums johnny, so you might want to edit the post, but yes you can buy from yourknifeconnection with confidence. I've purchased from them many times and they are very dependable.

Cheers,
Jon

Hi Guys,
Sorry for posting that url. I am new to this forum and have some things to learn. I have deleted it from my former post. Thanks for all the input.

I got mine about three weeks ago. It has the best fit and finish of any knife I own, bar none. The VG-10 blade came with a very good edge. It's almost impossible to see the seam between the blade and backspring when the knife is open.

If I were forced to say something negative, it would be that the micarta handle seems a little slick to me. I'm used to carrying something with a little rougher texture. It's no big deal, though, and I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Gents folder? In a word, flawless.

I received my Gent's folder today and in spite of the fact that I can be overly picky at times I must report that the quality of this knife is excellent. The fit and finish is perfect. I cannot find any flaws at all. I especially like the mirror polished finish on the inside of the locking springs. It reminds me of the quality one sees in the older Hen and Rooster and JA Hencklels pieces except with even more refinement. Even the inner side of the sheath's snap is somewhat recessed so as not to mar the knife's finish. I suspect Kershaw has contracted the manufacture of this knife with one of the finer Japanese firms like Seki or Moki. I am expecting alot out of the VG-10 steel after reading glowing reviews of it. My only problem with this knife....damn its almost too pretty to use!

I feel your pain. It's like pulling a tooth. Just grab something
up fast and start cutting the hell out of it.

Just make sure it's not a living object you grab hold of. ;)
