Attendees at the last HI like the idea (not mine:D ) of keeping the head count down to 10 to 15 people, this wouldn't include wives and children. I like this idea too. I would plan 3 to 4 of them a year.
Now how about having a big one per year with 30 to 40 people. This would have the cutting competitions, raffles and etc. This would also help in getting the Southern New England Knifemakers Guild more members.:D

New England Custom Knifemakers Association
Southern New England Knifemakers Guild----

Would another personality clash result in---

Northern New England Knifemakers Guild or Association
Central New England Knifemakers Guild or Association ---????---

Seems to me that would tend to lessen your membership base unless you were over supplied with "joiners" belonging to each and contributing nothing.

I like the ideas of small hammerins with one larger annual one!

I wasnt able to make this last weekends, and i wanted to be there pretty bad!

I am no long affiliated with NECKA. This is a Guild with very limited by laws. The only goals that we will have is to share views, knowledge and having a good time at the HI's.:D

Thanks for the input Dave.;) :D You always can come down on a Saturday before it snows.;)

Hear are a few ideas that I have how the Guild will be conducted. Please feel free to state your opinions.
Dues will be used to setup HI’s and to buy raffle prizes for the major HI's every year. The more $$$ we get in the kiddy the more prizes and higher value items will be in it. All the $$$ in the kiddy from the pervious HI will be used on the next one. We should get to the point of having door and cutting competition prizes.:D

I might just take you up on that! I'd love to play with big bertha and pick your brain about damascus. I have some round W2 coming that will be great for integrals but my lil arms might not enjoy forging it out to 1/4" by hand.

Wa..Wa..Wally,

Had a great time last Saturday, Fine friends, fine food, fine forging :D . I know a lot of damascus and cable was welded up. As Mike said, he finally got to take some home, as he is teaching people how to make it at every HI, but until last week, he never got to take any home for himself....way to go Grasshoppa

As far as several small HI's and a big one each year, that sounds like a grand idea ;) .

Dues,,,dues,,,well I guess most orginazations charge an annual fee, so why not the Southern New England Knife-makers Guild  .....I got no problem with that.

We'll talk about it next time I see you.

You and GrassHoppa could be in charge of the kiddy.:D All the $$$ would be used for the HI and prizes for raffle. I feel that only members could particpate in the raffle. It wouldn't be fair to them if a non member won, since they are the ones that build up the kiddy. Input need on this statement.

Just give me a heads up the begining of the week. Do you have my cell number????

My mother is from RI and MA so I should be able to post here....

Talk with Mike Miller from the Oklahoma City Group. They are putting on a knife show Nov 3 & 4. The makers in the club built a collaboration knife that they are raffleing off. Anyone can buy a ticket. That means more $$$$ coming in for the show.

In His Service,
Reid Allen

Thanks for the input Reid. :D This will be done in the near future.:D

Thanks IG, That sounds like a great idea. I learned much more at this hammer in than I did at the last one for two reasons 1. more time to spend one on one with other makers...2. I didn't get drunk this time :D :D ...Count me in from now on..

Louise would you want to help me setup the next big one????? You would have to come over here at 7:00AM the day of the HI.;)

Having just been at the last HI you hosted IG, All I can say is that it was wonderfull. As someone new to bladesmithing, and moderatly experienced in blacksmithing from a hobby perspective, I learned an increadible amount of information in a very short amount of time from talking with people such as Larry, yourself, Hummer joe (I believe that's what you introduced him to me as)

I'd be very intrested in meeting more people and learning more myself. I live close enough that I'd be willing to volunteer time into helping set up / break down, etc, if needed. I'd even be able to help out with getting those 100lb propane tanks filled now. The ford thunderchicken I was driving just a week ago has laid it's last egg, and thus I find myself driving a 2002 tacoma 4x4 pickup now instead.

I will be having a roof raising party before the first snow. All hands are welcomed.:D
First of all you have a open invite to come on down. The next time you come over I'll show you how to get the outside smithy ready for a HI.:D

I would really appreciate a response on the email that I sent you.

Forgive me GEORGE, my friend---I have had unexpected guests come up from Florida and I have been squiring them around and have not paid much attention to the forums. I firmly believe you are right on the smaller hammer ins as being more instructive and more fun then the larger ones. Yet the big ones are a lot of fun also but tend to have more social overtones. Iwas distressed by the happenstance between you and Dan Gray--- I do appreciate both of you and shall continue to do so. I was curious as to how the parting of the ways (and division of the spoils) would affect membership in either of the two association/guilds. Both organizatioins have my blessings as there are wonderful people involved in both. ---Sandy---
