I know the Chive isn't a new model, but I'm recently interested in getting one. In fact I'm thinking of heading to Wal-mart to pick one up this weekend. Any insight pro or con would be appreciated.

The Chive is a great small knife. AO from Ken Onion is excellent and will work well for years. The only weak spot is the blade steel 420HC. It is not a bad steel, it just is not a super high quality steel. It is more than adequate for a small folder.

It's a nice knife in a small package. The AO is great on such a small knife because they're sometimes hard to open. My only real problems were the ergos could have been better and recurves just don't work well on such small blades IMO. Not a bad knife though.

I handled one of these at a sporting goods store a year ago or so. Price was high (around $45, IIRC), so I passed. But I thought it was a neat little knife. AO was great. I think it'd make a great little folder to go in the bottom of your pocket for those times when you don't want a clip showing. I only wish the blade steel was a bit better. I'd have had one by know if it was. I'll probably pick one up, sooner-or-later, anyway.

What's Wal*Mart's price?

It's a cool knife, well designed and manufactured. It is a little too small for me though.

EDCeeker, Wal-Mart has them for $29.95.(Does Kershaw have any production plants in China ?)

Taiwan I think .

I got mine through the snapon guy years ago when they first came out. Handy little buggers.

Pchop, I've had a chive in my edc rotation for about a year now and i like it alot.Idon't abuse my knives but I don't pamper them either.
Last summer we had some pretty serious flooding around here and my chive was clipped in my pocket through evac and clean up. We both spent alot of time soaking wet that week and the knife is none the worse for wear.
I did take the time to give it a good bath in Break Free though.
I don't think you will be disappointed if you pick one up.

I've had one for about 6 years and it still finds it's way into my pocket on a regular basis. The AO is great, the recurve helps it cut like a larger knife, it's small size is sheeple friendly, and it's made extremely well. Some people aren't big on the blade steel but for a knife this size it's perfectly fine and it's easily sharpened. My only recommendation would be to put a lanyard on it. I put a Chris Reeve style one on a couple years ago and really liked it as it gives your pinky something to grip on to and makes it feel much better in the hand. It's my favorite small folder right behind the BM 705.

I handled one in a knife store. I've got a Scallion and a Mojo that I like very much but the Chive seemed too small for my liking.

While I'm not sure I'd pay $45 for it, at $29.95 I think the Chive is a great little knife. Considering how tiny it is, you can get a really good grip on it, bladeshape is great, overall it works really nicely. Maybe my fave "tiny throw in your pocket and forget about it until you need it" knife.
