I just recently began to notice the Master's of Defense models. I'm considering a purchase. What are some opinions these knives and which one do you like best?

Where are they made?

MOD makes some tough knives. Fit and Finish are outstanding. Also, there black finish isn't like Benchmades crappy Black -T, this finish won't come off. My favorite is the Trident. They are made in North Carolina.

I got to play with a couple yesterday, I was debating between an MOD and the two Microtechs I wound up taking home, VERY VERY nice design, good feel to them, I've already vowed to make a CQD or a Trident my next purchase, VERY solid, tight, hair popping sharp, the only reason Microtechs came home with me instead of those two was that #1 I didn't see an MOD comparable in size to the MT UDT I picked up, and #2 the CQD is a BIG SOLID knife, nice for use on duty in Public Safety or Military, definitely not an every day pocketknife, only downer that really got to me was the sheath to the CQD, it seemed REALLY cheesy, I just can't stomach putting a $280 knife in a sheath that cheap and crappy looking, which conveniently brings ya' to the point that they happen to sell some nice leather looking sheathes off the the MOD website for the low, low price of $25-$30 bucks or so, convenient, eh?
good luck to ya'!

I just recieved a Trident today. I decided to pick one up after looking at a good few over the last weekend at a gun show in TN. They are damn fine knives, IMHO, and should take a beating. I can give more info after mine has a chance to get out in the woods and have some use put to it. For the time being, it is my EDC to get it broken in.

Just received my Trident today...what a difference in quality from the Benchmade and the CRKT that I currently own! The Trident has a nice feel to it as well as balance. For a full-sized folder, it doesn't feel big. The handle feels just right too. Build quality is excellent as well as the design! This is now going to be my everyday carry!

Hey! Runs With Scissors how often do you stop to sharpen them?

They do make some extremly attractive and well made knives, but I wish all the models were a bit larger, I can't ever get a good firm grip on their knives. Yes, I do own them all

I own the Trident and Tempest. Both are extremely well made, tough using knives. Well worth the price.

I own the MK1 MOD CQD. It is a massive and tight as a drum head folder. I love it! It sticks out half a mile using the pocket clip...

First time anyone noticed a knife clipped to my trousers, he thought it was a Pager! It does kinda look like one of those.

I love the style and toughness of this knife, it is a real user.

At the last big Louisville gun show there were a few tables selling the "better" knives. I got a MOD "Lady Hawk". It's a mean looking little hawkbill that locks up tight with no blade wiggle. It's not designed for everyday cutting tasks. It's designed for one thing, personal defense. If you pop this baby open at a bad guy and he's got a grain of intelligence, he'll go away. The unique thing about the Lady Hawk is a liner lock. When you fire the blade, it stays open until you move the rather thick liner lock over with your finger. (Some people don't like this feature, but I find the thick liner lock a comfort. This blade is not going to close on your finger!) I like the little knife a lot. It's right up there on par with my Pro-Tech "Runt" and my Daltons.
I also gave them a call and asked for a catalog. It came in just a few days and it is a nice one with slick paper and good, clear pictures of their models. I'd have to say that MOD is "top drawer".

Go for the pointman. I love the one I've been carrying off and on for about 2 years. It's one TOUGH knife.

I have a manual Hornet, black blade without serrations, and an auto CQD, black combo blade. Damn I love those knives, two thumbs way way up!!! That Hornet opens just as fast as a fast auto wth a little thumb flick and slight wrist movement. Both are super solid! I've taken the CQD out swimming in salt water, very corrosion resistant. Those knives are non-stop fun and excitement

own 2 razorbacks - 1 is excellent, the other the finish is getting funky and has never taken an edge like the other - bought at the same time from the same place, and the same model - go figure - my wife got the crummy 1 lol - but seriously she wants to send it back for replate and sharpening - 1 hair poppin sharp, 1 not real sharp when new - prob will send back in the next wk or so.....but the 1 is an excellent fixed blade, but didnt know wasnt full tang when i bought - figured anything w/massods name would be A1 #1 - ya live ya learn - dont get me wrong, my razorback is my favorite fixed blade and i got a couple .......but look at them if possible - i couldnt bought off the net.....

MOD Makes, quite honestly, my favorite knives. I personally like the hornet, but I think you get equal quality in their knives, just depends on which ones you like more as far as styling goes.

If you spend $200 on one of these knives, it will outlast and outperform well more than 4 of the good quality $50 knives. So it is definitely worth your money in the long run if you use your knife even on a fairly regular basis.

Scissors/ trauma shears are used until they can't cut warm butter anymore and are then disposed of for another pair, (I get 'em free) there lifetime has a direct corelation to how many hours I find myself sitting around a station bored and finding new things to cut up with them, ("Gawly! ah didn't know ya' could cut through THREE pinnies at the same time with these here thangs!") knives get a much kinder treatment of being sharpened daily. Try as I might, I just can't get any of my employers to replace my Microtechs when I dull or break them. Heartless Scrooges they are!
