I'd like to hear opinions of either of these knives. I'm interested in them but have never handled one or seen one in person. Any comments greatly appreciated. regards, chief

Next to my Chris Reeve's the MOD CQD MKII is my favorite production knife, period.

I have and have had several at any given moment since I bought my first one about 6 months ago. The handle is ergonomic to the extreme and every detail was fully thought out.

The raised ridges on the side of the handle are very handy for pulling the knife from your pocket as well as keeping it from sliding forward while stabbing. The secondary lock for the button is very well placed and locks almost without a second thought. The "sand paper" type inserts provide for some of the grippiest handles I have ever felt. And the overall quality of construction rivals/beats the best production knives going.

The blade is very well suited for either tactical or EDC utility use and when you get it with the black coated blade the knife looks stunning to boot.

I can say with little hesitation that this is one of the most under-rated knives on the market today.

As for it's bigger brother, I bought one and it was WAY too big to carry on a regular basis. If you want a knife that will make children cry and women run for cover then this is the knife for you. No amount of drawing it out on paper or holding other knives up to a ruler can compare you for the massive size and appearance.

With that said, I feel it is an awesome knife for it's intended purpose. Carrying by LEO, EMS, Fire Fighters and SpecOps. If I was in that line of work for a living I would have one clipped to my duty belt for sure.

If you are interested in this line of knives I would say get one, you can't go wrong. MOD hit the nail on the head when they made this puppy.

Sorry if I scared you with my enthusiasm but unfortunately I don't think this blade gets nearly the exposure it should. :)

I too have a Chris Reeve Knife (lg sebenza) but have been looking for something else. I also own a couple of Microtechs which are well made in their own right. How do you think the MOD compares to Microtech? I've heard they are quite similar in make-up, tolerances, and craftsmanship, your thoughts? You are right about the scare factor of the big folder, this I would want to avoid. I am active military and would carry it on duty, but also would carry in off-duty so I think the Mark II may suit me better. Many thanks in advance. Regards,

I have the CQD Mark II and I would second cpirtle's comments. I handled the Mark I and it was just too massive for reasonable carry. The Mark II is easily carried in a variety of positions and is a very useful EDC. The QC on this knife also appears to be top rate.

MOD competes with MT head to head in most instances. I think MT has an edge in overall line of product but IMO the CQD MKII beats anything MT is currently offering in a similar knife.

FWIW I also really like MOD's Ladywawk over MT's Kestrel or Vector as well.

Based on what you've said, I would definately go with the MKII.

The only thing I don't like about the CQD is the glass breaker has a tendancy to jab me in the leg. I just flip the breaker over to the blunt point and it's golden.

I'd say buy one :D

Ditto what the others said.

I've had a CQD for over a year now - great knife! I wear it on my LBV at work, but it is a bit on the hefty side for civilian clothes. My everyday knife is a MOD Hornet - excellent little knife, love it :D

The wife has a couple of the big and little CQDs in the store, but she won't let me do anything more than look at the CQDMKIIs, oh well - Christmas is coming.

PS - if you are interested, drop her a line, gogetemgear@qwest.net She gives some kick ass deals to military, LEOs and such.

I must agree 100% with cpirtle on this knife! Open it up and you see the attention to detail and quality rarely seen in any knife. It does not even have washers! What it has is two areas of the solid Alu handle raised and highly polished as the 'washers'for lack of a better description. Put a little Teflon grease here and wow! This knife is so smooth! The plunge lock is amazing and the secondary safty a nice extra. I find this knife a little chunky for an EDC, but if you want a knife for when a Large Sebenza would likely break... I carry this! One hell of a knife, not cheap, but one of those must buy knives IMHO. I want to get the fixed blade version of this as well.

Here is a little test, hold the knife out and press the plunge lock button to unlock the knife, it is so smooth the blade drops to a downward pointing direction. It is as if there is no resistance on the blade other than the pressure of the plunge lock itself! However, the blade is still tight and wobble free! Stunning!

The only thing I dislike is that the thumb studs rotate on mine, is this normal?

I am considering the MkII as a more EDC knife.

Hope it helps in some way!;) I own a Mk1 CQD and I must agree 100% with cpirtle with regards to fit, finish and overall quality. When you strip one, you see the tolerences are so tight, that this knife does not have washers! The solid Aluminium handles are highly polished inside and this area forms the 'washer'
