OK, so I'm thinking of getting another 7-inch outdoors knife (not that I need another one, mind you). I was looking at the RD7, and it looks like a pretty good deal. However, I noticed some comments about it not being finished that good or being as "refined" as, let's say, a Becker BK7. So what are your thoughts about the RD7. Decent knife for the $? How good is the F&F? Thanks in advance for the input.

I have some OKC Ranger knives and I find them acceptable for the price and what they are designed for.

and its only acceptable for its design use? i.e. are you implying it was designed to cut steel and it does it "accpetably?" cause to me that seems pretty badass for a knife under $100.

The RD series are designed as utility/entry tools by a former Army Ranger/Special forces.

You can use it for whatever you want.

They are designed to be hard use knives and not made to be pretty.

i know about the founder, but i guess what i am saying is that a knife that cuts through steel like that that you can get for like $80 seems a bit more than acceptable. i own a tfi and a "customized' rd-4 bush, just haven't used them.

Cool! Great knives. Try em' out ... they're tough! Check out the video in the link above. or here ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aEPXhDkqLQ

... and I agree the fit and finish is more than acceptable for the price of them.

They are tough. They do have nice micarta handles, except they could be more rounded. Under hard use, all of mine sort of hurt to use.
I've used a file and 80 grit sandpaper to improve the feel of the handles, fit as well I suppose.
From the box, the Beckers will feel better. But, the only Becker in 1/4" stock is the BK2. The RD7 and the BK7 are similar in length, not in thickness and geometry.
The sheaths of the Ontarios could be better.
Chestnut Ridge knife shop has custom Ontarios, Rangers, and custom Kydex sheaths. They have both the RD7 and BK7 in a mirror finish with micarta handles, check em out.

You're right the OKC handles could have more of a radius like Justins' customs.

The sheaths could be a lot better ... but the newer ones are better than a year ago.

Justin does the custom work on the OKC and Becker knives that Tom from CRKS offers.

I have a RD-4 that I like a lot. As far as finish goes, I see no letdown from the Becker to the OKC knife. But that may have come from nthe fact that the micarta slabs on the RD are sorta square and may need to be sanded a little to more comfortably fit your hand,

Great knives, great price, BIG and BEEFY to boot!:)
