I am thinking about getting a police model to go along with the rest of my spyderco collection.I haven't seen much about this particular model on this forum,I already did a search. If anyone has an opinion as to which model, steel handle or g-10,they perfer and why I would appreciate any input.I feel that the police has been forgotten since the military and starmate came out.what do you think?

Hi, Matt.
I've been carrying a stainless-handled police model with a plain edge as my main carry knife for over 2 months, and IMO it makes an excellet cutting tool. It is NOT a prying tool, as it has a fine tip, but I like the solidity in cutting the SS-handled model gives.

In my jeans, I don't even notice it clipped to my pocket, and though it's about 5.5 ounces, I think the weight is negligible.

I agree the Police model has been overlooked lately due to the Military, Starmate, etc. However, it's a time-proven design, and one that's influenced the design of other knives over the years (notable, Benchmade's AFCK, and, I think, Spyderco's Endura and Delica series).

I purchased a g-10 Police model a couple of months ago to add to my Spyderco collection. I liked the look of the g-10 handle more than the SS version. My only experience with a SS handle is the Endura II, which I love the weight of in my hand, but is a little heavy for my pocket.

I have both the stainless and the G10, thanks to Mark of MJ&S and Leyroy_45. I like the G10 more, although the blade of my G10 Police bends a bit to the side opposite to the clip. Not so much, I had to look carefully to spot this. This is the kind of knives that I really love, slim and pointy. And the flat grind on G10 doesn't make the blade as thin as the full size Calypso. Both versions of Police are very solid knives. But I feel that the stainless model is a bit too heavy to carry when I wear lose pants.

I've carried a stainless Police Model almost every working day since 1988. It still holds a great edge although the serrations are disappearing slowly but surely from sharpening. In uniform, with the weight of my duty belt the weight is negligible. The only anomaly encountered is a slight discoloration of the blade tip from drug field tests- and that has nothing to do with the quality of the knife. I also have a G-10 police. If I were choosing a police model for everyday wear it would be the G-10 although it's a little long for the front pocket of my jeans. (I currently carry a BF Native when I'm not working.)

G-10 or stainless- you can't lose.

Ben

Hi!

The Spyderco Police was my first Spydie and i used it when working in a warehouse which meant cutting A LOT of cardboard daily, i also cut A LOT of heavy duty plastic and even some thinner (and not-so thin) metal strips.
I used the knife daily for about 4 years and then gave it away to a friend and then bought another one...the one i gave away still performed perfectly, had a lot of dents and scrapes and some VERY small play in the pivot area.

This is a great knife and i would recommend it to anyone, only thing that might be not-so very good is that the steel handle is a bit slippery.
Get one!

Be well!/Jonas aka 2Sharp
BTW, i used mine so much it almost looked like a plain edge in the end...it got sharpened maybe 3-4 times a week...

Stainless Steel Police, or Titanium Frame!
Course, I don't know, does the Titanium handle still exist?

Also, didn't Spyderco quite putting the lanyard holes in the stainless steel models once again?

The Spydie Police is a great knife. The Tuffram aluminum model is very lightweight and solid. I have this knife currently for sale in the appropriate section.
