I'm considering getting a SOG Pentagon Elite 1. I would like to hear from anyone who has or had one. How is the Arc lock? How's the blade steel hold up? How does it feel in the hand, and when clipped in the pocket. Is it a good EDC? Thanks.

Mark.

Arc lock you can't beat..........I don't have the PE, but have handled many. Smooth as silk operation, easy and quick. Zytel is tough stuff, you would probably never break it. Clip is similar to my SOG Night Vision, very good.
Blade can be adjusted to suit your need as far as opening.

I think the steel is perfect for the type blade shape/design it is.

If you handle one.......you'll probably get it..........:D

You're probably right. I have a Topo Meridian already that I just had to have. There are several others that have already caught my eye; like the Trident folder :D and several fixed blades. I am tempted to trade one or two of my spydercos. :confused:

I'd go for the spec elite because it has the full straight edge and a little more attractive blade shape but they're both really good :)

just got my trident folder back , it s an awesome knife , satin bladed plain edge , lightning fast

Had one, sold it and picked up a Spec Elite.

The Pent Elite is made for stabbing. It stabs VERY WELL too. But mine did not cut very well, it had a pretty wide edge grind. but it held it's edge well, untill I reground it... Oh well.

If you are looking for a SD knife it would fit the bill if your style of martial art uses peferation rather than cutting.

Otherwise the Spec Elite will make a much better cutter. Mine is a little dull near the hadle now from rolling the edge over, but the forward portion of the blade is wicked sharp. The tip is a needle, very well ground. And the lock on both of the knives was wonderful. Smooth, gentle, and strong. I've had more than one person ask me how I open it so fast. (Guess practicing never occured to them.)

Either one will serve you well, just depends on the task you have in mind.

Pentagon = Stab and cut.
Spec = Cut and stab.

:)

If you think a Pentagon folder opens up quickly, wait'll you see how quickly a Pentagon fixed blade "opens". ;-)

Pentagon = Stab and cut.
Spec = Cut and stab.

Very true, even with the fixed blade Pentagon. 'course there's something about 4-5" of fully sharpened serrations that gives "cutting" a somewhat different meaning. You've got a Spydie avatar, so I'm not telling you anything new, eh?:)

No doubt. There is cutting and then there is complete obliteration of whatever is in front of the teeth. Well done serrations like Spyderco and SOG are welcome on my knives any day. They work, all other serrations I have used got in the way of a cut rather than making the work go quicker.

Now that I think of it I believe I'm going to order another SOG next paycheck. Maybe a Tigershark... :D
