What do you guys think about the 950BK Rift? Pros/cons...should I pick one up? Thanks guys/gals.

I bought a rift about 6 months ago, and so far it has been great. When I first received mine it had a had a substantial amount of blade play. I took it apart, oiled it up, and when I put it back together, it felt better than when I got it. I love it and use it almost everyday. I would highly recommend it.

I picked up a Rift here on the forums. Great Slicer, nice steel. Easy to sharpen with a nice thin blade and the tip is also strong. If you want one, I'd recommend it!

I agree with what the others have said. The Rift is a very good design with an extremely useful blade shape and great blade:handle ratio. It's a very good slicer due to the relatively thin stock, but the blade design is also such that it also maintains its thickness toward the tip.

An excellent knife that is much tougher than first meets the eye. I would recommend the non-coated non-serrated blade. Lube up the pivot point. Adjust the main screw to your liking and you are good to go.

I unfortunately abused mine cutting a piece of sheet rock and now the black coating is heavily scratched. But it cut through half inch sheet rock like butter!

The only thing I dont like is the heavily textured handle wears holes in my jeans pocket quickly. (i carry in back left pocket)

I'm actually hoping BM brings it back in some LE with M390/M4/Elmax...it's a great design that IMO should not have been discontinued.

If BM were more like Spyderco and offered sprint runs in various steels, this would be one I'd wait for in CTS-XHP or ZDP-189 as well as M390...

Whoa, whoa. They discontinued the Rift?
And there are other variants out there in CPM-M4, I would know, I own one ;) however, if it were in M390 and ELMAX...let's just say I'd be broke.

^^ I'm jealous :)

I think the Rift in M4 was a limited run of about 50...I think (I could be wrong).

Is there a LE in damascus running around? I think I saw one...but maybe it's just late and I'm imagining it?

The one thing I would suggest is to handle one before purchase. My hands are just the right size that the pinky coil stabs me in the middle of my pinky finger; it is uncomfortable and annoying.

I carried one for several months almost exclusivly. I loved it. The handle is not for everyone, but if it fits you, it's great. I actually filed down the edges on mine, just slightly, as I found they were a little too agressive during a tight grip. I'd say it's a great knife though, and if the are discontinued I'd grab one if you like it.

The Rift is a well built knife, with quite a few pros. As mentioned above, the handle just was not for me. Handle one before buying if you can.

I recently got one based on reviews here and also didnt like the handle. It was a very well made knife and I tried hard to like it, but the grip felt awkward in my hand, so I'm getting rid of it. If they made a mini-rift like they did with the grips or onslaught I would love to give it a try.

Thanks guys, I can handle one before I buy so I'll do that. Appreciate all the feedback.

It wasn't a sharpness issue for me, or even the bump near the end that most people complain about. The part where you rest your thumb is too far back from the blade. The index ramps and thumb ramps just felt like they were disconnected from the knife. Everyone's different, and Benchmade makes great stuff so no worries.
