Opinions on the Al Mar Sere fixed blade

I really like the look of this one but am a bit worried about the lack of guard? Has anyone got one? What do you think about it? Cheers.

I have the TOPS version (Mini-SERE Operator) which I believe is just a slightly smaller version of the Al Mar. It's got a slight bump out at both the top and bottom of the handle right where it meets the blade, and seems be secure enough that your hand wouldn't slide onto the blade. I hadn't even thought it might be an issue until you mentioned it. It does have micarta scales which are fairly grippy, although I understand they can get slippery when wet, so that could be an issue. Nonetheless, I've seen and have some knives that I'd be more concerned about.
