Opinions On the Benchmade RUKUS

It's kinda big but I have a large folder in my pocket(SpecBump) so it don't bother me. I have a feeling the Rukus will be my first BM.

That Rufus is a big puppy. Don't get one unless you like big knives. It has a twin brother called a "skirmish". I think Rukus and Skirmish were two Irish war heroes.

I have heard only good things about them. If I were looking for a large folder I would also consider the carbon fiber Spyderco "Military" model or their "Manix" model which kicked butt over the Sebbies and Striders in a recent review test.

There's two threads on the Rukus in the Passaround section. Check out the opinions there.

But I've got #147 of 1000 in the first production run of the knife and I really like this knife!

I've EDC'ed fixed blades that were smaller.

I like the design, the lock, and the handle ergonomics. For me though, it's just too big.

Well, I love big knives so it is along the lilnes of what already own. Im a big guy and have trouble finding knives that fit my hand comfortably. I got to handle the RUKUS and Skirmish at a gun show this last weekend and both are killer knives but I am leaning more toward the RUKUS.

So far I like mine (haven't really had the oppurtunity to give a good workout). It's a Dundee knife, for sure.

I like larger knives, though I'm smallish in stature. The RUKUS is at the line in size for carry for me. Probably fit you well, it sounds like.

The handle is comfy, but I'm wonderin' if I'm the only one who has observed a bit of roll-over when it's slick. And your grip is a bit more dictated by the finger grooves than with the Skirmish.

But, it's a keeper for me.

if your into pocket swords then go for it.. that this is BIG!!!!
i'd love to have it, but i will not purchase simply because its too big for edc- and if i want a camping knife i'll go fixed blade

Not exactly. All that test (not a review) did was show that the Manix is sharper out of the box. Which of the three knives (Manix, Sebenza, SMF) would win an overall review is just a matter of the reviewers opinion.

The Rukus is big enough that I think you should see one in person before buying, unless you really like big knives. It makes a Manix, Military, or 710 look and feel small. Even the Skirmish feels much smaller in-pocket. If you order one sight-unseen, you might end up with something too big for you.

I love big folders and I find the Rukus just BARELY small enough to EDC. If it was any bigger, I would find it very uncomfortable. Some people find it too uncomfortable as is.

Hi everyone I just received my Rukus in black. The UPS man meets me as I pull onto my property.
I was grinning pretty hard as he handed the little box to me. The first thing that hit me was the weight; it just floored me for a sec. I posted a picture already under the EDC pic thread. I cant stop shaving hair and flicking it. It is so smooth out of the box its like shifting a Lexus 400 ls. I’m going to really be careful where and when I pull it out. For the faint at heart, it may scare old people and children. I may have to cut my apple at work in private. This knife, well all I can say is “SWANG”. I’m waiting for my gorgeous wife to say” Are you glad to see me or is that your Rukus in your pants.” LOL This knife feels so indestructible. As you can tell I really hate it and will be sending back to New Graham in the morning. NOT. Best 168.00$ I have spent in a long time. Later

The Rukus rocks - had mine for about a month and is one of my favorites - it just reeks of quality and I love the axis lock - great flicker! :D

A little off topic, but I'm curious. I see a lot of people post about peeling and / or cutting apples. Do you guys just not like the skin or what? When I eat my apples I just bite right into them. Did do a pretty mean job on some carrots today for soup though. :D

I bought one from NGK about a month ago. My intentions were to purchase a Yojimbo but Mr. Dye pointed out the Rukus. I changed my mind. It was dull as hell ( for a new knife) but after ten minutes on the sharpmarker it was scary sharp. As far as big folders go I like my Manix better( I prefer lockbacks) but I am not disappointed in the Rukus.

I have both the Manix and Rukus. The Rukus is not too big to EDC. Although it is thicker than the Manix, the Manix is harder for me to EDC because it is so wide. It takes up pretty much the whole pocket.

My Rukus was extremely sharp out of the box, and I found I could easily carve intricate, narrow windows into the side of a Kleneex box. It handles very well. The quality is excellent and it opens like a dream.

I was worried about the steel and how well a folding knife this size could take leverage, so I went out to the wood shed and chopped a pile of kindling off of dried and hard firewood rounds, a job that required some prying. The knife and steel took it all in stride, even though I was purposely using it hard. The steel had no chips or rolls and the blade was perfectly centered when done. Very few folding knives could repeat this performance.

I used to have the Skirmish, but gave it away. It's a great knife in most respects, but it's not a good cutter. The Rukus is a great cutter.

I just recieved my Rukus from newgraham.com. I can already tell we'll get along good. I requested US Postal Service delivery, and wow it was at my door step in 46 hours.

Another Kool feature Wade, Is the way the Rukus is shaped. It ahs a low slung clip and the knife is smaller on one end than the other. So when you where it, it looks almost half as small as it really is. Kinds like the tip of the iceberg showing.

I have a Rukus and think it's a solid knife. I used to EDC my manix instead of the Rukus on the weekends. That was until i found out the Manix repeatedly fails the spine wack test. I got rid of the Manix and now EDC the Rukus when I'm wearing blue jeans and want to carry a really big folder. Anyhow, I trust the Axis lock on the Rukus. That's important in a big folder you may have to use hard.

I peel apples, and only eat the skin.
heh.

The Rukus is freakin' huge. It's a Benchmade, so it's Benchmade quality. But... it's big. Too big for me to want one. I can carry a 4" blade in a much more tidy package.

Another apple eater! I wait till no one's around, then Rukus the apple up real quick!

Good review - couldn't agree more. I LOVE that knife, its my ultimate large folder.

I'm getting a Camillus Dominator for those times that my dress pants will print the larger knife too much.. like when I'm in a suit. otherwise, its Rukus for me!

(ok, the wegner pro hunter worked fine for that.. but don't tell my wife... god I need to get into a steel addiction twelve step program... :D )
