I've been curious forever about the non-automatic toplock and how it performs. I;ve only seen it in catalogs, and was on the verge of a purchase but for the steel. 55 rockwell on J2 scared me off. Input would be appreciated. Thanks

I had one I paid about $100.00 for. I ended up only getting $35.00 for it. This was the most expensive one too with the Thuyawood handles. IMO they are overpriced. In the price range you can get A much better knife. The top-lock does have A great sheath though.

It may just be me, but I feel that Boker's (and Klotzi) folders a a tad overpriced for the underperforming steel they use and they're not rugged enough for hard use. A friend of mine was so underwhelmed by his that he offered it to me for a fraction of the price - I didn't take it.

However, if you don't intend to use it or use it only for light tasks like opening mail, don't let that stop you. A real pity as some of their offerings look great. Oh well, mabye I'll get their Infinity with the ceramic blade, which should outcut any steel blade...

Not quite. Ceramic is hard, but not tough at all. I chipped mine sooner than I dulled the knife. I'll take a good steel any day.

I don't know where you guys are getting your Bokers but your getting ripped. We've been talking about automatic Bokers on the Practical Tactical forum for a couple of days. My wife likes my auto Top Lock II (red bone handles) so much she's had me looking for one for her. I just found a guy who sold me three auto Bokers (one conversion and two factory autos) plus a scratch and dent knife for $175.00. As far as I'm concerned the Boker Top Lock II and the Boker Speed Lock II are some of the best buy knives I've found.

They do have a couple of drawbacks though.

1.The steel isn't the highest quaility, but these aren't what I'd call high-end knives.

2.If you buy a conversion you never know who did it and what they did. Buy a factory auto if you can find one and must have an auto.

3.They are a deep-pocket only knife unless you use the nylon sheath that comes with them (they have no pocket clip).

4.The handle is a little small and too narrow at the butt a good reverse grip. But I've got giant hands so this seems to be magnified for me. My wife has small hands and doesn't think it's a problem.

I got one as a gift about three or four years ago and carried it almost every day until I got a MT/SE about a month ago. It is still my preferred carry knife when I'm wearing clothes that don't facilitate carrying a large folder. It has a round, smooth profile that doesn't destroy the liner of my dress slacks and doesn't print a lot in blue jeans. I think it is the perfect size for a good utility/defense pocket tool. They are cheap enough that I don't really mind all the nicks and scrapes and dirt that has been ground into my knife over the years of carry.

Overall I've got to say that I love my Boker. It's been a good tool and has just enough geewiz factor that I find myself playing with it even after years of constant carry. Plus some of the inlays they are making now are pretty.
