I'm thinking of picking up the crkt version on friday, to pair with my main fixed(4" or 4.5" on left). Going by kit's word in chat, it should carry clipped inside my right pocket, edge back. Check that out on friday.

Kit isn't taking orders right now, or I'd 90% be getting a custom version of it. Just wondering really on comfort using it, thinness of the whole package, and tip control.

I have had a few of these. All but one have been given away to people who comment on how much they like them (not many, have given 3 away). I have kept one for myself that has been used heavily.

Think small. Your first impression maybe to question whether or not it will be comfortable to use. Trust me, it is, it just takes a bit of getting used to. Mine gets used on so many things, the mail, boxes, plastic ties, mindless whittling (turning big sticks into little sticks) and all kinds of other chores.

Sharpening, as with most other CRKTs I have had is a breeze. It takes a great edge and holds it plenty well for me to know it will be sharp when I need it.

Its not what I would call a heavy worker since it is so small, but is a great everyday utility knife.

The sheath is decent. I carry mine clipped inside the watch pocket of my jeans. No discomfort at all, and easy to remove from the sheath, but the sheath is secure enough that you know the knife will stay put until you need it.

Its really hard to find anything negative about this knife. Its as good a design as you will find in a very small utility fixed blade. And for the price, everybody oughta give it a shot.

VampyreWolf,

I have an F-4. It is the handiest knife I own. I use it as a neck knife. It is very sheeple friendly. I even wore it outside of my shirt and walked all over Las Vegas without anyone noticing.

It is also a great last resort self-defense knife. I can grab the lanyard and pop it out of the sheath and into my hand into a reverse grip so fast most people don't even notice what I have done. ;)

It is small, but I wouldn't be afraid of using it to skin a deer. It is a very sturdy knife. I have used and abused mine for the last 4 years.

I have large hands and I consider the F-4 to be dinky. Considering the reduced grip and leverage of such a small knife, I would rather carry a small folder for convenience sake.

Now I have a hand made large F-4 with about a three and a quarter inch blade that I consider to be the cat's meow. Fantastic utility blade with just enough handle to apply some real cutting force, and slim enough to carry effortlessly anywhere.

I agree with Grateful. The knife is one of the best factory designs I've seen. Its small, but it handles most of the chores that I need a knife for. I really like it. I found mine at a Gun Show for around $15. The only complaint I have is the sheath. Its just too bulky.

Month later, I just bought one. Only complaint right now is that CRKT's factory edge didn't shave.

My experience seems to echo yours, VampyreWolf. It's a great little knife at a great little price, but it's the only CRKT I've bought (out of about a dozen) that didn't come nasty sharp right out of the box.

have a custom sheath coming from kit himself. Thats one small problems out of the way. hit the spyderco whites and a strop to get it shaving... so for $40, it should be a nice work beater.

I know I'll be taking it apart and polishing the beadblast off.

got my kit custom rig, nice and secure.

now to take it apart and get rid of the beadblast and convex the edge(it only shaves if I strop every night, may as well use the 6a steel and convex it).

VW,
Quit shaving in the mornings. It must be that tough beard you got :)
BTW, the subject should be CRKT F4, not Carson F4. :D

kit: thats arm hair to test, and then use it all day at work. I only shave the face once a week, if I shave more than once a month now, and you saw what I'm leaving now(unless it blinded yah).

as to the topic: it's quite obvious which one it ends up being. most customs don't see any use.

but why'd you let them put a beadblast on it?

It might be one of the earlier ones before they started using the ceramic bead like I use. Big difference.
Dumb as it may sound, find a bucket, fill it with that good Canadian dirt and start jabbing the knife in and out of it. Won't take long to make it shine like a new penny, course you'll have to resharpen it :)
Word of caution - - be careful. :D

Come to think of it, I've never seen that recommendation posted for getting rust or "junk" off a knife blade.

Ah, those pearls of wisdom that come from us old has beens ;)

BTW, glad you like the sheath. It's built by Frank Sigman in NC.

just going to plug the dremel in, and use a 220grit drum. and then convex it up for the edge, so it doesn't matter what the dremel does to the finish.

as to dirt, I might be able to chip some out of the ground for yah.

I'd like to check out that custom sheath VampyreWolf. Can you post a picture of it? How much $ it set you back.
