I found some of the CRKT Apache knives in one of my books, and they have the OD green handles. Are these pretty good? I am thinking of ordering one, but first I need to know what yall think.

Never heard a lot either way about these knives, but for what its worth SMKW has them on closeout right now for $24.99 for the large models...Your choice of bead blast or black ATS-34 blades. These are the ones that preceed the new ones out now with the blue or OD colors.

I received a gift certificate for $25 to SMKW for X-Mas and have been looking in their catalogs for just such a closeout. I should get mine in about a week.

I have looked these knives over in the past, and they seem very nice, Like all CRKT items...Good knives for the $$$. I like the way the large handle fits my hand. For $25 bucks you cant go to wrong!

RattlerXX,

I have the smallest of the Apache line, it is not a bad knife, very small and very light. The liner is thin, but this is a small knife, not made for large tasks. I have the idea that CRKT is discontinuing this model as I have seen the prices dropping.

I don't know much about the larger models, but an ATS-34 blade with an anodized Al handle for $25.00 is a pretty good deal. Mine took a little bit of work to get the edge to my liking, but now it is one of my sharpest knives.

Never had any problems with mine and it's in my 'work' rotation.

Not a bruiser of a knife, but for the price...

Arrrggghhh !!!!

@#$%^&* POST OFFICE !!!

When I saw this thread, I knew that I was missing some good deals - my SMKW catalog finally came on Tuesday. I just tried to order an Apache and they are already SOLD OUT of all the small & medium models. The large is just too big for me.

I did order one of the CRKT Commanders on sale, a Frosts of Sweden Swedish Army knife and the MicroLights I've been wanting.

I got my SMOKY MT catalogue - went right to the phone - and sold out was the reply - so I'm on "back order" for two of the small Apache's - CRKT's seem like a pretty good tool - I've been using the standard "KISS" for a couple years and it's done well for me. $15 bucks for a small Apache - I don't think you'll beat that...even if you don't like it..it will make a "spare".

I guess the pony express gets to L.A. a little quicker these days.

I too saw that special in the SMKW catalog (after suffering through countless pages of "fantasy" knives) and placed an order for a small and medium. The medium arrived last week, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the Apache, which was my first CRKT purchase.

Construction seems solid throughout, the aluminum handles are nicely done, and the ATS-34 blade was nicely honed right out of the box. Yes, the liner lock is thin, but be that as it may the lock-up is very solid and the lock stops right where it should on the blade tang. The folder isn't going to make anybody forget about their MT LCC, but getting an ATS-34 blade at about 1/3 of the normal asking price made this Apache a great deal, nonetheless.

I had an Apache II a while ago that I got rid of. It took a nice edge and had solid lock-up, but the pivot screw kept backing out, even after I applied som loc-tite and the blade rubbed the liner. I also wasn't crazy about the blade shape. My .02.
