Opinions on the Emerson Super CQC-8?

I've been looking through Emerson's catalogue and loving the hell out of what I've been seeing. However, the only direct experience I have with handling their knives is a brief visit to a knife store this weekend where I got to hold a couple of them (namely, the CQC-7a and the Commander).

Of all of their currently available models, I've mostly had my eye on the Super CQC-8 plain edge. I like it because it has a large blade (4.3") and a nice up-swept clip point (good for the kind of cutting I commonly do - boxes, fibrous string, industrial tape, etc). I also like the texturing on Emerson's G-10 handles.

I was wondering if any of you own a Super CQC-8 and can talk about your experience with the knife. What do you like about it? What do you wish was different? Comments about Emerson knives in general are also welcome - this will be my first Emerson knife, and they are a bit more expensive than other brands tend to be, so I'd like to make my first purchase the right purchase.

Thanks, fellas.

Emerson makes great knives, cannot go wrong with them. The Super 8 is too big for me, I would rather carry a fixed blade.

the super 8 is huge.

handled, but never owned. too large for me to have practicality.

i have a reg 8, 7, combat kerambit, 45, persian, and a 13.

i use them for cuttin stuff.

You own a Persian? Jealousy!

I like "big" knives, although I have freakishly large hands, so the bigger ones tend to fit me better. As an example, I can hold my Benchmade Onslaught in a reverse grip with my thumb comfortably bracing the butt of the knife, and with my pinky in the forward finger groove.

the super may be right for you.

but keep in mind the reg 8 is a large knife in its own right.

and the persian is pretty great. ;)

I've been watching videos and reviews, trying to imagine how the Super 8 might fit in my hand - from what I can tell, it'll be like a glove. I think I'm convinced.

Speaking of the Persian, I've got a friend who will be talking to Ernest pretty soon. He's going to ask if the company has any plans to put another batch into production, or even to modify it.

According to Ernest's website, they'll be showing a custom Persian during next month's show. I'd love to buy it, but I don't have the money to drop on a limited release knife like that - and I would be reluctant to use it for EDC.

one real nice thing about eki, with their more popular models, 7, 8, commander, there is a size to fit everyone.

You'll end up with a few, no doubt. Post what you decide on. Consider a Krein Grind too. This is a Razor zero grind.

I just placed my order for the Super 8! I'll be sure to post some pics when it arrives.

What Emerson models do you own, Lycosa?

I'm not sure but he has a lot. I had a Super 8 but it was too big for my hands. It was completely sound though. I currently own a CQC7b and 2 Super CQC7b. All of mine are heavily modded though.

Those are exquisite! I particularly like the Super 7s - those look like just the right size for me.

Where did you have them modded? (my work station doesn't have speakers, so if you mentioned it in the video I didn't hear it)

The normal 7 in my video is actually the same one on his site. It's approx $275 to have a framelock conversion done. The Ti blade for the old handles was another $100. I'm very happy with them and am carrying one right now.

I have no experience with the Super 8, but I want one. I do own a Super Karambit, CQC 11, and Mini Commander. All fantastic. The wave is so much fun but it tears up my pockets lol.

The only emerson I have is the commander but its a great knife. My next emerson purchase will be a super cqc8 so I am interested in what you will have to say about yours.

As soon as it comes in I'll post some pics. I'll update again once I've had some time to use it.
