I am seeking some opinions on the Leatherman Supertool 300 but before I put down my hard earned money and buy one I would like to here some opinions from my fellow forum members about it.

It's heavy and has to be opened to access the implements, but has all the tools I need and accepts a very usable and compact accessory bit kit. Lighter and less bulky is fine for EDC, but there is no substitute for mass. To put it this way; the ST 300 is not my favorite multi-tool, but the one I reach for in times of emergency (week of bad storms w/o electricity 2 years ago) or if I expect hard use.

ST 300 is my go to MT and currently my favorite. The wire cutters combined with the larger jaws of the ST300 cut like crazy. The price point is pretty good, much cheaper than a Surge. Bottom line up front, the ST 300 is an outstanding MT.

the ST300 is a fantastic full size "classic" tool that holds all of it's implements securely inside. I use mine a lot.

If it's a tad too chunky, check out the Rebar:)

^^^^^this.

The Rebar is basically a shrunk down ST300. It is one of my favorite Leathermans of all time.

I've had every super tool model and the 300 is by far my favorite. I carry one daily, if the situation doesn't allow me to belt carry, I have a pocket sheath I made. It's not too heavy. It's strong and well proportioned. I love the tool selection and the new wire cutters are great. The pliers head is strong and works very well in a wide variety of applications. Over the years I've used super tools to do a lot of things. Each new model was an improvement over the previous, this 300 is by far the best. I also use the bit kit with it and have found the bid adapter that worked with the previous super tools also works with this one. It's a great tool.

I have a lot of leatherman products and I like all of them. If the ST300 has what you need then it would be hard to beat.

My favorite "big" tool is the Charge. I bought it because it can use a pocket clip, although I don't normally use mine with the clip. (I have too many folding knives that I like to carry with their clips.) I also like it because the knife blade can be opened from the outside. However I find that I mostly use the screwdriver blades or the pliers, so I could probably get by just as well with the Skeletool, which I also have. I have the original supertool, I could probably carry it instead of the Charge and get by just as well.

In terms of usability, I agree that the current Super Tools are best. However, my first Super Tool, an original, was my favorite. Despite some drawbacks, mainly a clumsy and possibly hazardous unlocking method, sharp edges on pliers handles (finessed with a folded bandana), I liked the original SE blade shape better than the later ones, the slim form factor and sleek exterior. It also had a nice "finger toy" quality. I used to enjoy the sound it made when being folded, like no other m-t in my experience. It was easy to belt carry, which I did almost daily for 9 years, during which time it did all chores reliably and several times bailed me out of "situations". In addition, it taught me "knife." Later, I tried a succession of ST versions with improved lock releases and stuff, but never really warmed to them. However, the latest ST300, a tweak with easy to operate releases, replaceable cutters and rolled handle edges, was enough of an upgrade to replace my ST original in the rotation. It had to be done, but I just don't have the same feeling of affection for the new guy. It's only a tool. But a good one.
