I need some opinions on this pack. I start college in 3 weeks (gotta take advantage of that G.I. Bill) I think this may be the perfect carry all day pack. I need you fine individual's opinions before I buy it. How does it carry? how does it hold up over time?

i have a pygmy falcon 2, similar platform, just smaller i believe.

excellent construction and stitching.

many pal points for additional storage and modular customization.

comfortable shoulder straps w/ sufficient padding.

my only problem with the pygmy is the lack of a hydration bladder storage pouch. otherwise i have been very happy with the pack.

zippers are heavy duty and should have a long life.

I also have the pygmy falcon II. Its on special for $54 right now at LApolicegear. What a great buy. I love it. Like all of the maxpedition gear I have bought its well thought out and extremelly well constructed and very comfortable.

Had it for about a year.

Great all round bag with high, high durability....BUT...

Not sure if you will be able to get all the books, and possibly laptop in it, if need be. When fully loaded, it is HEAVY.

All the features work well, I don't like floppy straps, so more Fastex tri-glides are necessary to secure them, available at REI.

I have the condor II and I use it as a 3 day assault pack. It would probably hold a good amount of books, has good molle straps locations. Bug out gear makes some good book bags with built in organizers for all your college needs and they are typically cheaper than maxpedition....
GI Bill? Go to the PX and get the better prices.

thanks for the advice gentleman I think I am going to go ahead and get it. I dont carry a laptop to class. Just some notebooks I was looking at this pack because of the size. If I have extra room I find more things to carry.

Thanks for the tip on the Pygmy Falcon sale...just ordered one, and my wife is gonna think I am nuts!
I already have a Mountainsmith Kinetic, REI Vista, Deuter Tungsten, and I just ordered a Countycomm Bail Out Bag.

I got all of these (except the BOB and Pygmy) for under $30 on sale.
Notice that all of them have external bottle pockets and carry handles--even the Mountainsmith.

The Mountainsmith is excellent, but I wanted something in between it and the REI. The bottle pockets are kinda tight, but still fit my favorite 22oz nalgene bottle. It is very comfortable worn as a lumbar pack or sling-style. But...no organization at all.
Hopefully the Countycomm will solve this.

The REI is very nice--extremely well built. But, it lacks organization, and the interior has an odd "upside-down triangle" shape. Still a great pack.

The Deuter is my large pack at 2100cid. I came with TINY bottle pockets, so I cut them off and added my own. It is somewhat basic, having only one organization pocket (pretty large, though), but it will haul a lot of stuff, and is very comfortable.

The Pygmy...to be continued.
