Opinions on the new crkt nirk?

not usually a CRKT fan but I kind of like the blade shape on this one. Thanks for posting it, I hadn't seen it.

3C13 is a chinese 420j type steel. It makes good frames and such. At that low Rc there's not going to be a lot of performance, but it should sharpen easily.

I am wondering how comfortable thin sheet metal is in the hand, but it looks cool and the price is certainly low enough to take a chance. Interesting design.

Very interesting. If there were a custom version, I might be interested, just for the unique design. Simple, lightweight, inovative, cool.

I like the blade design, but not sure how comfortable the knife would be to use for long periods.

Hi woodsman102 -

I had not been aware of this new design, but thank you for posting the link.

I have a very good friend who loves a very thin handle for deep-pocket carry (no clip).

I think I will buy one of these for him for his birthday - the steel quality will not bother him at all.

best regards -

CRKT always has new interesting original knife designs and mechanisms. I just wish they would use some higher quality materials.

Hi folks -

To update this thread - I saw that someone by the userid of "g.klecker" is selling nirks on the 'bay, autographed by the designer, for under $20 delivered.

I was very interested in seeing one of these so I bought one out of curiosity.

I wonder if that is really the designer that is selling them there?

I will post a few pictures when I get it.

best regards -

Hi puukkoman -

Cool!

When I get it, I'll send it to you and you can video yourself eating a bowl of soup with it. :p

I don't expect a super-high quality knife for $15.00. What I am interested in is the ingenious way the knife is made.

For the price of a taco plate and a small margarita, I am not out much to satisfy my curiosity.

Nabbed one today while shopping at AG Russell, I was surprised of the size...

Hardly noticeable in the pocket, slightly rough feeling action, they definitely need to take another minute to polish the sharp edges.

Aside from the obvious finish work, the handle corner (lanyard hole) jabs my palm.

Paid $17 and change out the door.

Hi Folks -

I did buy the NIRK off of the bay, and I bought the one that was supposed to be signed by the designer.

Unfortunately, Glenn send the knife without signing it.

He told me he would refund my money if I sent it back, but he could not afford to have me send it back, sign it and send it back to me on the small profit that he was making from them. Oh well.

The knife is neat, with an interesting design. As mentioned above, the action is a little "rough" feeling, although I am sure I could lube it and work it until the action smoothed out a little.

The knife is solid, and very thin for pocket carry.

The blade is fairly robust for a cheaper knife - and I like the grind.

I am not sure how long a knife like this would hold up, as the wear surfaces are the same thin-ish stainless steel that the handle is stamped out of, but the lock mechanism is very interesting.

For the person who wants a decent sized knife that is light and thin for pocket carry, and does not care to have a higher-end steel, this might be a good choice.

I just bought one so I could check it out, and I do not intend to carry this one, but I may used it a little to see how it holds up.

Here are pictures of the knife.
