i have held a few of these new china made schrade
knives and there fit and finish is really well.
what do you guys think of these?
are they good edc,and nothing else?
should i leave them alone period,or use them as an edc?
too nice to just let slide?
thanks for any and all replies.
if you have one,and like it post some pictures too.
we all like pictures.
that is unless you don't want them trashing up the schrade forum.
thanks,
jd

My opinion,I would not purchase one,and have no interest in them.Did'nt I see you post something similar in the Buck forum?

grim, yes i posted imilar in the buck forum.
you guys are pretty strict about your knives i
am learning.
i just picked up a little lb1 and it seems to be made
really well?
i hope i don't get no grief over this, but actually think
there probably made as good,or better than they
were when made in the good ole u.s.of a.
the fit and finish on all i have seen so far are very good.
and i haven't seen any old timers with the tips missing.lol

i just hate that they are made out of country because of
all the bad publicity they get.
rumors are the chinese workers are treated like slaves, but
i also read somewhere else that it was just that.
there just rumors and the workers actually make a decent
living, and take pride in there work.

so who is telling the truth?

makes you wonder.
thanks for the reply,
jd

Schrade Knives Collectors Forum is a legacy forum, not a manufacturer forum, so I am moving this to the General Knife Discussion.

Hi - My name is Howie and I carry a Taylor LB2 on my keychain. :o

In it's price range ($6) it's an above average small (2-1/4") knife.
Solid and locks up great - actually pretty tough to engage to unlock it.
Edge retention is average but it works for quick stuff.
Obviously I don't worry about sharpening it or it getting banged up.
And, in the spirit of Taylor, I've recycled the box it came in to keep my real Schrade USA LB2 out of harm's way.
 if you only pay $6 (plus the oil to help that unlocking issue)

For anything else, the Schrade USA 834UH or Schrade Walden USA 778 stainless that I pocket carry are always nearby.

Some of us old timers (No pun intended) simply don't care for anything made in China, Tiawan, etc. We've seen far too many items cheeply made imported from these countries only to have it break and be thrown away. We were brought up on good old fashion American craftsmanship, where "Made in the USA" meant quality, pride, and jobs. Sadly, this sense of pride and patriotism seems to be almost gone as the average American has become accustomed to settling for just about anything. Items not made in the USA means jobs for someone other than Americans. Do you suppose that perhaps there's a correlation between the present state of our economy and the fact that we can't seem to send jobs over seas fast enough? I don't think you're going to find too many Schrade people on this forum all that interested in Chinese knives. One other thing regarding this issue; if these Chinese/Taylor knives are so great, why'd they have to copy the patterns and names of the former Schrades? Why not develop their own products and let their individual quality and uniqueness sell themselves??? No thanks. I'd hammer out a knife from a railroad spike before I carried one from China! Some of us haven't forgotten.

They are crap.:barf: My first knife I bought for myself 30 years ago was an Old Timer lockback Schrade that I will never part with. It's the top left knife in the picture. That China crap is junk.

The Scrade USA plant is closed. Check out the traditional section where there are plenty of traditional knives. The knife next to my Old Timer in that picture is a Queen Mountain Man which is very similar and USA made quality.

mm,yes i am familiar with the schrade plant being closed.
i am also familiar with queen being made here as well.
there are 2 main diffrences in the queen, and the new
taylor schrades.
made in the usa,and priced to that extent.

it's a real shame that a good quality usa made knife cost
around 3 ,4 or more times that of a good quality offshore
knife.
makes you wonder if that is reason alot are closing there
doors?
not everyone collects knives,so why pay a days wages
for something you are gonna use,and abuse anyway?

know what i mean?

I won't get into a political discussion but I wouldn't want to live the lifestyle of a Chinese factory worker. I wouldn't think it's that good.

mm,i have heard horror stories about the chinese workers.
i have at late also heard that those stories were from days gone, and not from the same factory as the knives we are talking about come from.
i don't think the conditions are like they use to be.
i think it's just something the usa factory owners told to make the
knives made there look bad.
that way, sell less and keep there doors open?
that is just an idea.

U.S.-made Schrades are still out there. When I travel I always make it a point to go to any old fashioned hardware stores I find. I've found a few that way.

Also, they show up on the for sale forum here. There were some there no long ago.

I still have my Dad's LB-1. I'm very sentimental about it. I bought it for him when I worked at the local hardware store when I was a kid. He kept it on his keychain and used it a lot.
