just ordered a Spydie Native 5 today, cant wait to get it, any of you guys have this knive?

Looking or opinions and commends from those who own it.

Will I be happy with this purchase?

Yes I have one, it's my favorite of the Native series. Very well made, I love the blade grind and the G10 handles. If you like the Native, you will be happy with this purchase.

I didn't care much for the frn models, but this #5 is a fantastic knife.
It it reminds me of the old Mini Manix, only smaller. its a tough little edc to be sure.

It's built like a little tank and has rock solid lockup. I've found S35VN easy to sharpen with respectable edge holding. I'm not crazy about Spyderco's textured G-10, but someone was kind enough to re-scale mine in Mexican Ebony.

OK Paul, now I'm jealous :p When you able to post a pic, I'll be sure not to look at it, wink wink ;)

You know, I've carried a Spyderco Native well more than any other knife. The Native 2 lightweight is what I've carried, losing one about every 3 years, and I loved the knife. I expected to love the 5 even more.

There's nothing *wrong* with the 5, I just don't love it.

My pleasure and, for the record, the scales were done by Gull Wing, who also supplied the wood.

Very very, nice! Smooth beautiful wood, I bet it feels awesome in hand. I would love to have a set of scales made for both my Native and Stretch as well.

The Native 5 is really nice. I like the blade and handle shapes. The fit is great. The lockbar has no gaps and sits flush when the blade is open and closed. The best thing about the knife is the lock. It's the most solid lockback I've experienced from Spyderco. No blade play at all. And when you press the button to release it, the blade drops 90 degrees. I remember reading that this knife uses a re-engineered lock, also found on the Sage 4. I do prefer the Sage 4 for its wood scales and wire clip.

The N5 has been my EDC work knife for about six months. I find myself grabbing it on other occasions as well. Rock solid and feels great in hand and pocket.

Deacon, your knife is really beautiful. I have some nice black walnut and some ash burl. I may need to get a second 5.

I started to EDC N5 about a month ago and cannot take it out my pocket, except when I need to cut. I hate to admit, but N5 kicked Caly out. I absolutely love the knife and steel. Also thinking about replacing scales with something more attractive. But as much as I love wood, I cannot picture N5 with wood scales, which I like, so may be will go with two color smooth G10 or micarta.

I keep hanging on to hope that we will see some sprint runs of the N5 like we do other Golden made blades. A blue M390 N5 or a Maroon Micarta M4 N5. Whatever they do, count me in.
