I'm considering picking up one of these. My almite navigator has been my EDC for quite awhile. I appreciate any opinions on the Lava as an EDC.

Thanks,

Clay

Nothing to dislike about the Lava. Feels very good in the hand, small in dimension but solid and hefty enough to cut and feel like a "real" knife. Fits in the little watch pocket on a pair of jeans. Aesthetically pleasing. Not too small to open with one hand. :)

It is a nice little rock-solid knife with a LOT of thoughtful design and an obscene amount of engineering put into it. The grip is like a firm handshake, and the blade has enough belly to deliver great cutting power.

With all that said, the UKPK weighs about half as much, delivers almost twice as much cutting edge and has a nice point, which I use a lot more than the belly, so I carry it instead. :o

It has amazing ergos(IMO), but I find the blade/handle ratio off, eventhough it was designed as such. For me, I happen to prefer more blade relative to the handle.

one of the best little big knives from Spyderco :cool:

You NEED one.:)
Cuts nicely, solid, fits the hand perfectly. A little less pointy than I normally like, but that's the only thing I can say against it.
I like the extra weight as well; feels solid, and you don't quite forget it's there.

I used to think it was a little expensive… but it's obscenely well made, fits the hand perfectly, and is a great companion to my Sebenza.

I like it, but my Navigator II seems to fit my large hands better. Also, the Lava's about 3.5" closed with a sub 2" blade. The Navigator's about 3.25" closed with a 2.25" blade.

However, both knives are great & I prefer the Lava's tip-up carry over the Navigator's tip-down carry.

Good luck with whatever you get. Another neat little folder, & a CLB design too, are the Subcom series.

I have seen pics of a couple that STR re-handled in Micarta. Great mod, and it cuts enough weight to make the knife a lot more attractive to me.

I would like to see them do one in G10, micarta, or FRN (preferable to me as it's the lightest) I love the Boker Subcom series by Los Banos, and like the shape of the Lava even more...I just wish it was as light as the Subcoms.

I love the Lava and have two of them. Very well built with great ergos, as everyone has already stated. If you've been curious about it for some time and you have the money, go for it. If you're open to suggestions, however, I'd recommend the Spyderco Sage, considering its only about $5 more.
