Opinions on the Windmill outdoor lighters

I have had a windmill lighter for about 6 months- I don't smoke but it goes everywhere I do. It is a great piece of gear, it has never failed- much better than a zippo in my opinion.

Positive comments thus far. I read a review at www.gearoom.com that recommended the lighter as dependable, but added that it consumed fuel very quickly. Has anyone found this to be the case?

Bought a standard clear/black windmill from triple-aught a year or so ago, no problems at all. Use good fuel though, either Vector or Lava. Some say Ronson will plug up good lighters.

Where would one obtain these fuels? Don't recall seeing them anywhere.

I've had two for a couple of years. I've used them from Chile to Greenland. Pretty good. But the Brunton Helios is a little cheaper, a little lighter and a little better.

I have a Windmill in anodized aluminum. It's small, light and (for a piece of survival equipment), classy. No complaints whatsoever.

I have both. The Helios and the Windmill are, except for the external packaging, the exact same lighter. Compare the two, same base lighter, down to the Delta symbol. Both kick butt.

Kick ass lighters. They are available in several flavors, but my favorites are the Deltas and the Anodized Aluminum models. The Gun Metal Shiney model is high speed indeed, looks very classy in most attire.

I've had a Delta in my pocket for over a year now, without any problems, other than pocket lint. The Delta's have a metal clip that locks the lid shut. The rubber armor is kind of neat too - I bounce it off walls, the road, etc, whenever a customer asks about how tough it is. Pretty effective example...

Thatmguy, my deltas [2]and my helios [1] are completely different. You must have a model of Windmill or Brunton that I haven't seen. The Helios has a distinctive screw off cap at the bottom.
I have the brushed aluminum delta, which is missing, temporarily I hope, and an armoured one that clips shut. The aluminum is tough enough for the field but good-looking enough for dress purposes. No wonder someone nicked it :( The armoured one doesn't work 100% any more, but it is still limping along. But I did beat the hell out of it [didn't throw it against the wall though :)] The helios isn't armoured but also clips shut. It doesn't feel as tank-like as the deltas. The windmills really have a solid and expensive feel to them. But, sonofagun, the helios is still 100% and it took at least as much abuse as the armoured delta. Hence my comment.

We were thinking about picking up the Colibri line earlier this year, but honestly, I wasn't impressed when the rep showed us several models. They just didn't seem as well put together or solid as the windmills.

HJK, I was amazed when I checked them out. I have the Delta Windmill in the transparent green, and a Brunton Helios. While the "body" is different, the core lighter is identical. Check the flame head part. Mine match up 1-to-1.

I can't post pics, but as soon as I can (have to buy a camera..duh)
I will.

My Helios has the screw off cap on the bottom also.

I think the Delta is a bit more rugged, with the rubber "armor" case and the wire safety latch.

I was surprised at the Helios a bit. Mine is what seems to be plastic as opposed to metal as I expected.

However, it lights every time I have needed it to.

:)

After looking at the configurations of both the Brunton Helios and the Delta Windmill, the regular Windmill would fit best in my trouser pocket, which is where I currently carry my disposable.

Where do you folks carry your lighters?
