Opinions on this rig

I saw them at this years NTI in Harrisburg. Walter E Brewer, Jr. had his table set up there and had a ton of vests holsters and belts and some Delicas.

I checked out the vests and the kydex sheath and they attach onto the buttons right underneath either of the underarms. So you would draw like you would with a shoulder holster. I think they only are making them for the Delicas.

It looked like a good concealment set up to me. Especially if you don't like having the tell tale clips coming out of your pocket.

This is where I carry my Boker Specialist. At work - with about 60 people around - nobody has ever noticed it.

If you're not going to fold your folder, why not carry a fixed blade? This rig appears to give you the disadvantages of a folder without the advantages.

The main justification seems to be the ability to carry a small folder through airport security. But you're probably not going to get the knife through airport security carried in that rig. You would have to carry it more conventionally then so as not to alarm the guards. So why not check your fixed blade in your luggage, and put your folded folder in your pocket, where you'll probably be carrying it anyway?

Well said, Howard. That is why I carry at least one of each.

Superficially, it's a good chance to try out some kydex, maybe.

I agree it's more of a loophole, for those states with tight laws.

Do you guys remember those sheaths that you put a folder in blade first, and it folds up about 75% of the way. When you pull the knife out, theres a brass pin or bolt that the blade rides against and that opens it. Seems like that would be a better carry sheath for a folder than this one.

Um, just a few quick words from me.

If conceal carry is in question, this method will PROBABLY only work with vests or jackets. Food for thought.

Some states won't allow fixed blades to be concealed, or even carried at all, but will for folders. However, folders are usually slower and more difficult to draw than fixed blades. The "quick access" sheath for folders is suppose to address both of these issues. This makes it somewhat of a niche concept.

I completely agree with the set of guidelines for a serious personal defense knife. However, I completely disagree that the Delica98 fits that guideline. Besides, anybody who finds serrations threatening will likely to find a the "quick access" sheath concept threatening.

YMMV.
