Opinions on turning neck knife into keychain?

I just received a custom Bradburn neck knife in a trade, thanks David, and was thinking about getting a sheath made for it so that I could use it as a key chain. The knife is about 5in with a traditional Japanese wrap over rayskin with a silver minuki. Any comments on doing this? How do you think it would hold up to the extra wear and tear? Any suggestions for a sheath style or maker? Thanks. -Lev

Too me that sounds a little large for keychain carry, if you want a fixed blade, check out Bob Dogget's keychain companions, they are really neat little knives. Otherwise I would go with a leatherman micra, or one of the little spydercos. Maybe it is just me, but I have enough keys on my keyring that if I add anything to bulky to them, they wont fit in my pocket anymore.

If you only carry a car, and house key, it should be fine. But if your like me your keys are your secondary survival system,(keys, LED lite, knife, magnesium fire starter, ball of paracord,ect...)have about a 1 lb of assorted sh*t on them, they'll beat up a nice knife quick.

Get something durable with a plastic, or Zytel handle, and locking sheath. Blackie Collins or AG Russell Thumbbolt design, and be prepared to possibly lose it:( , especially if you clip your keys to a belt loop.

Can I ask why would you want to hang a nice knife off of your keys instead of clipped to a pocket or a neck carry option?

I just thought that it would be a cool addition to my keys. I think that you guys are right, even though I don't have too many keys, it would bang the knife up. Thanks for the replies.

Same here. I'm looking for a nice 4" OAL neck knife that can be converted to a keychain.

In case you're wondering...I have a dozen keys, a mini screwdriver set, and a vial (don't ask), that all hang from my key ring which is actually a Caribeaner - so I can fit lots more stuff on it if I want to.

Just my way of life...

I carry a Hartsfield keychain knife. The blade is about 3 1/2", overall 7". the sheath is leather with metal insert. Blade is 1/16" thick, so very light. It holds up very well. There's a string attaching it to my belt loop which allows for a fast one hand draw. It also makes my keys very easy to access. All around, a great knife. :)
