Howdy,
New to forum and was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Windlass Coutille. Construction, quality and such. Any opinions appreciated

Had one, gave it away as a gift. Probably best to take the thing and grind off the edges and point and make a training blunt out of it. I was not impressed with the security of the handle or the quality of the steel. Temper appeared to be louzy. Balance wise it is pretty good feel, very light. If you pay more than $85 bucks for it you are getting taken.

Best

Windlass is hit or miss on quality. The smaller blades have less of the "whippy" factor than the longer ones, but the hilt will probably loosen up quickly. Best bet is to take down the hilt and JB Weld it together.

Thank you Gentlemen for your opinions. So far not so good. Is there anything that would be comparable, but with better quality and not a much greater price?

Generation 2 - Knight's Riding Sword

I have one of G2's viking swords and it's hella stout. I wouldn't say it is on par with one of the masterpieces made by Albion but for a more affordable and fairly historically accurate 'beater', it's pretty good.

I'd note though that the first one I bought, the blade wasn't tempered at all. I sent it back and Imperial Weapons replaced it. The replacement is impeccably tempered. I've had it for about a year doing some heavy cutting practice with it and it feels nigh indestructible; nothing has broken or rattled loose and it's just as solid as when I bought it.

Hello Wolf_1989,
Thanks for the suggestion, but for some reason my antivirus software will not let me connect to that site due to a trojan horse/ redirector issue.

Thanks Wolf_1989,
Good looking weapon. At the current time it is beyond my discretionary spending range. Anybody know where to get a Coutille sharpened cheap/inexpensive? Thanks

I've heard good reports about Generation 2 Japanese style swords for the past four years.

I have no doubt that going on the reliable comments of Wolf_1989, it would seem that they make decent European style swords as well.

Hello b.c.molin,
Thanks for the response. Where can Generation 2 swords be purchased at the least expensive price. Also I did not ask previously does the Knight's Riding Sword come sharpened correctly? Thanks for the help.

I'd imagine it's sharp. "Correctly" might be a matter of opinion. My G2 is the River Witham Viking Sword. It came with a pretty good edge. A few licks from one of my stones gave it an even better edge.

I doubt it will arrive with a rebated (blunted) edge.

Kult of Athena has pretty good prices on G2 but I don't know if they carry that particular model. You might email them and inquire about it if you don't see it listed on their website.

Thanks Wolf_1989 for your reply; the only online dealer I have purchased from is Himalayan Imports, who also have a nice range of swords as well as their world renown Khukuri's.

I think they look good together.

PS does anyone know where the nearest monastery is?

I like the way your thinking but I'd opt for an easier and more 'pleasurable' target: the nearest nunnery! ;) :D

Yeah I know but The Woman™ disapproves.

However my viking dog Thor suggests we get in our canoe, cruise along the beach of the local lake and pillage some picnics.
