Ran across these Bucks at an estate auction listing for later this month. I think they could both clean up fairly well and or benefit from a spa treatment. Was wondering what you all can tell me regarding age, steel used, variation (regarding the 110) and perhaps a ballpark value?

Both look to have some honest use and the 120 seems to have lost some of the second spacer under the guard but it looks a bit older than any 120 I have currently and with the sheath and box I figured it would make a nice addition. Wish I had a better photo of the blade stamp on the 110. Can't tell if it's inverted or not? Anyway, as always any info will be greatly appreciated.

Don't much on value of the knives with exception that the Buck 110 in used condition like that on the bay goes around $20 to $30 bucks. The stamp does not appear to be inverted though, I can make out the B & K of the Buck stamp.

I believe the 120 is 1968 to about 1972. The box and sheath aren't too bad.

The 110 looks to be most likely a late two dot or maybe a three dot…1978 to maybe 1981? The box looks mildew, but the sheath looks okay. I would guess a musty smell maybe.

Spa can do wonders. but those do look well used….especially the 120.

Personally, I wouldn't be interested even though I could use an old two liner to fill in a spot in my collection. I certainly would set my limit to under $100.00 for the pair. That could be low if they cleaned up nice.

You would be ahead of the game if they did turn out nice.

I avoid any boxes or sheaths that look like they may have spent a lot of time in a damp basement and the 110 box has that look.

It's the second photo on the 120 that makes me think maybe deep scratches in the blade.

I would say that 110 was probably early 1978 if it is matched up with the original box still. Most of the large three pinned 110's have the one piece box, but I believe the earliest of the large three scale pinned two dots had the two piece box.

Thank you for the replies. Stumps, is that macasar ebony on the 110? This auction also has a 317 Trailblazer with box and sheath and a 315 yachtsman along with maybe a dozen other 300 series Bucks and a couple more fixed blades, 103, 102, 121, etc. All have the same style boxes as the two I posted above. The other fixed blades also have the full flap holsters. Most look to have some use but no real abuse. I'll keep my fingers crossed come auction day and see what happens. I don't have a 121 Fisherman or a 315 or 317 so I may focus on those rather than models I already have examples of.

Yes....solid Macassar ebony on the 110.

You just might get a good deal on the whole lot!

I'm weak on 110's but can address the 120. To help you narrow the age down a little. USA was added to the tang sometime in 1967 and the handle spacers changed from fiber to micarta sometime in 1969. To me the spacers look to be fiber which would put the 120's birthday in the 1967-1969 bracket. Fiber spacers of that period generally did not cover the underside on the guard on this model but did cover the underside of the guard completely with the change to micarta spacers. The steel would be 440. I don't think the 120 looks that bad and should respond nicely to a spa treatment. $50 would be a good deal for you and $100 a good deal for the seller. The truth is in the middle. /Roger
