I have an opportunity to purchase any or all of these Schrade knives, which were on the factory boards. I don't doubt their origin, as I trust the guy who's selling them. My main question is, was the three blade utility knife, right side of first pic, a standard item? I can't find it in the Catalog E reprint. Any other comments, including opinions of value are greatly appreciated, as the prices are a bit high.

Is that a case style copperhead!? and a moose? I've never seen any like those before, nice knives.

Are you referring to the knife with the marlinspike, M-M? If so, it's a sailor's knife. The spike is for tying and splicing rope. Case makes one (or used to. I wonder if Schrade made them for Case?) very similar, although their newer ones don't have a can opener that I know of.

Those are some nice pieces, WN!

But something about that right hand knife in the 1st pic is bugging me. It just doesn't look "right". The main blade looks like it was just finished yesterday. Everything about that looks weird to me.

I'm probably way off on this. I'm sure LT has seen some of these.

I don't know what the price is on these, but a few of these I have never seen before. Anywhere.

I always look at the handles as well. If they are well worn and the blades aren't, that makes me curious.

But you trust the guy, so they must be legit...

Good luck, and thanks for sharing.

Glenn

WN, I was speaking of the top pic far left (moose) and bottom center (copperhead) Those two really jump out at me. I have to agree with Glenn on the top right, looks too new, maybe refurbished, or a schrade tangstamp used on an oddball camp knife?

The top left is indeed a moose, and the bottom center is usually referred to as an "English Jack". It's over 4" long.
M-M, my understanding of a copperhead is a knife with an asymmetrical bolster, giving it a snake's head appearance, like this one;

Or this one;

Simple question...
the knife in pic #1, far left. What is the spear point blade style/design/name (same as primary blade on the left in pic #2)? Not the clip point but the blade pointing north.

You called it right...it is a spear point blade. It has what appears to be a sabre grind (W/swedges) at the tip, and a long pull (french :mad: ) nail mark.

Or, did you mean something else?

Bill

Bill, I believe those blades are referred to as spear, or spear point blades alright, and indeed they are swedged which is the small bevel at the top. However they are flat ground; a saber grind is different; instead of the main blade grind being a full flat, it is only gound for half its width, leaving a ridge or shoulder down the length of the blade. I have one or two, but couldn't locate them tonight. I'll post a pic in the next day or two!

There was a lot of that oddball stuff as far as grinds many of these knives were cleaned and reground by Dave Swinden who basicly put the boards together. Grinds are not always the original style on these. The moose is only correct if the knife is a smaller version under 4 inch the larger ones 4,1/4" all had oval shields. However they are all damn nice the sailors knife is very early. The first row right is also very early. All really nice stuff let me know what you do not want. LT PS here is a pic of the large moose handles. To show what I mean. Your moose should be around 3.5 inchs. There were a couple versions.

Ok,
Scratch the sabre grind. :o

The second picture, in particular, looked to my old eyes to have some scratches near what appeared to be the shoulder of a sabre grind. My mistake.

Spear blade, with swedges, and flat grinds (maybe altered) it is. :)

Bill

I believe those to be correct old style spear blades. The side grinds may not br correct??? LT

The moose is 3 5/8", so it must be the smaller one. Is that too long?
Attn; LT: I'd like to buy the Moose, the Cattle knife and the long English Jack. The EE jack, the upper right utility knife, and the marlinspike knife are still available, if you are interested. I can put you in touch with the seller via Email, if you wish.
