Gentlemen, I am liking the looks of the GEC #48 Slim 1-Blade Trapper (I've also heard it called a Slim Jack or Dogleg Trapper).

I would appreciate confirming that it has a half stop, knowing how hard the pull is, and any opinions or comments on it, pro or con.

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

Hi Andrew, I have a few. They do have half stops but in my opinion the pull isn't hard at all. They are great pocketable pattern, slim but still long enough to get most jobs done.

I have two two-blades. They have half stops, the pull is quite moderate, maybe 6 out of 10.
Beautiful knife - great fit and finish, walk and talk, blades centered. What's not to like?!
Great knives!!!!!!!

I've got one and love it. There is a half stop. The pull tension on mine is nice. Firm enough but not too much and it talks with a good crisp snap. Great knife if you like single blades.

Edited to add: Is that barn door hinge with the church glass a new one? Don't think I've seen it before.

Thanks, guys, for the helpful responses.

Trand, those are some beauties! Is the one on the far left burnt stag, and the second from the right antique walnut?

If you are still on the edge of buying it, victorinoxfan on youtube did a fantastic review on one with snakewood handles.

The 48 single is one of my most favorite from GEC. While I've got them in wood, bone, and acrylic (Templar models) the bare end bone versions have the best feel of all of them, IMO. Not too heavy, not too light, but just right.

Andrew, I don't have a single blade version, but do have a 2 blade model and it is almost identical in size and blade configuration to my beloved 194OT Schrade which I carried quite a lot before moving to smaller knives for EDC. The blade shape and size are great for EDC and the quality of the GEC knives is without question. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks, gents. But all this praise for the #48 is not helping my willpower. ;)

Andrew

Andrew, you had lost that willpower when you posted. We're enablers here, not counselers. :D

How about another kick in the back side to send him over......Scagel (GEC) Fruitport in Elephant Ivory

The stag #48 is (along with the stag and bone versions of the 73, Moose and 23) the best of the GECs

Fine, elegant, considered - really very useful

I've got the Tidioute Tractor Green one as shown here by Trand.

The size is just right, a bit smaller than a CASE Slimline Trapper but more substantial. Excellent in the hand and a really useful all-rounder.

Been after that Amber Bone one in UNXLD next to the Snakewood but can't source one. What I'd really long to see would be a STAINLESS issue of these knives as they are just right for pic-nic/snack prep.

Definitely. First some 1095 Wharncliffe Trappers then we need the 440c runs...

Make it happen Trand! Just let them know you're interested and I'm sure they'll be out in no time :D :D
