I was just wondering if anyone on this forum has one of these CRKT M16 1* law enforcement tantos. I just ordered one about a month ago. It was only $50, and I've seen them @ local stores for more than $90! Has anybody seen them cheaper? Should I have gotten the Carbon Fibre M16 w/ the 154cm blade? Just looking for some opinions/thoughts on this knife and CRKT in general. They seem to be a respectable company. thanks:)

Yes, this knife is most excellent!- wait a minute, I seem to be talking to myself- well I'm satisfied!

The carbon fiber models come in aus 118 steel, not cm154. Check out the titanium models.

The M-16 are available through a number of online distributors. I love the M-16 line, and feel they offer a huge value. My preference is for the AUS8A blades. I also have an M-1602CF- really light and small. The steel is AUS118, and I like it fine as well. But for Big Cutting, the full size baldes are great.

IMHO, The whole CRKT line is a great value. Don't get caught up in knife envy- these are tools that work. If you're happy, that's all that counts.
Peace,
Bill

Were earlier M16's made with AUS-6? Somehow I thought they were. I have one now thats a year old.

CRKT makes a ton of great stuff. I wish I had the resources to have them all!!

The M-16 line came in many flavors. The oridginal M-16 line with aluminum scales was AUS8. The Zytel Handles were with AUS6M. Later the Carbon Fiber (CF) line came out- much smaller blades but also gorgeous and light. They used AUS118, other places called it ACUTO 440. This is a European steel-this one specifically produced in Italy. CRKT has dealings with a small but high quality factory there.

I work in downtown NYC, and my LEO cousin just gave me the CRKT M16-14LE. This knife fits my hand perfectly. Great blade, weight and feel. Now that all bets are off and I work in a combat zone, I won't settle for anything less than a fistful of a knife. Neither should you.

No more tiny knives!

Hello all,

I've had my M16 12Z for over a year now. Zytel handles work great. It's my EDC (used primarily to open boxes, static bags, and the like) it sees light use daily, and sharpens up reasonably well (not that I'm a professional with a stone, but I get by). Combo edge works well for my purposes. My brother-in-law loves his 1* version (police edition). I would say it is a good value for the price. My only gripe would be that the steel (aus6 in mine I believe) is a little soft. Again, for the price, I'm very happy with mine. Just my personal experience. I'd buy another.

Regards,

Shaun.

I have recieved my M16 14le. I am very satisfied. Yes, it does have the AUS8 black tini coated blade, and blue aluminum scales. It has LAWKS on it which I did not expect- a good thing I guess. I have not used it for any heavy use yet, but it seems to cut very well, opens smoothly(I love the carson flipper), and it fits my hand perfect. :D A very good purchase and a good deal @ $55!

I have an M16-14LE and love it, though I did have a problem with it. Four days after I bought it the thumb studs loosened up. CRKT customer service was excellent, answering my Email right away and not asking for any money for return postage like other companies. They replaced it with a new knife that has not any problem. The quality of the knife is better than some more expensive knives. The latest MIL and LE models now have a titanium nitride blade coating instead of teflon. The ti coating is much more durable, and can be identified by having a very shiny appearance, almost like a black chrome. I also have an M16-03 that I've had a year with no problems even though every opening is a hard one with the flipper.

At the SHOT Show last weekend I met some of the people at CRKT and they very nice to me and spent a lot of time showing me all the new models even knowing that I wasn't a dealer, just an individual customer. The new EDC M16 is great. A 3" ti coated blade, 2 oz. weight, and unlike the photos I've seen, and the 2003 catalog, The clip has been moved to the top of the handle so that it sits lower in your pocket. The flipper still works well even with the lighter blade. I will be buying one, along with a Lightfoot M1.
