I tried the 'feel' of the Gerber Freeman import variant in a sporting goods store several years ago. I remember remarking that it would be nice if it were made in an upgrade steel - with interesting scales - maybe a leather sheath. Also nice, if Gerber actually made it in the USA. Then I found the Cabela's 'special' cocobolo handled Freeman in S30V - close, but I believe it had checkered scales - which I hate. Then one day, tired of the dreams of the latest Busse 'Chernobyl Meltdown/Exterminator Sword' and Barkie 'Whatznat' in spalted wombeezee wood, I went to the demonic den of inequity...
At any rate, while perusing Evil bay, I found the US-made, S30V bladed, leather sheathed, and stag handled Gerber Freeman Hunter. I've watched the sight - several have popped up. They actually run less than the Cabela's S30V on their site. Has anyone tried either it or the Cabela's version? How is the feel and fit? Is it a long bevel? Sharp? Is it well tempered, or is this one of the uses of S30V to avoid? Would it take a convex re-edging? How would it fill the light-bushcraft needs? Any other opinions? Thanks!
