I was looking over at the Extrema Ratio site, they seem to be BOOM PROOF !! Wondering if anyone here has used one of their knives, especially the folders ?? Opinions ?

I've got a Fulcrum-II D. Awesome knife--one of the best lockups I've seen and just the right size for my needs. Fully ambi operation, feels great in the hand, etc etc.

You just have to try one to fully appreciate it. :)

I like the look of the folders but the blades are .25" thick. How well does it handle EDC chores? How does the steel perform?

There is some Fulcrum information mixed into this thread. In summary, I haven't used them real hard yet but so far I'm impressed with my Extrema Ratio Fulcrum IID and Col Moschin. Yes, the blade is thick near the handle but it tapers toward the point. I've used my Fulcrum to chop up dozens of cardboard wardrobe boxes at a time and it worked fine. It is still sharp and the finish is still perfect.

PhoulPlae,
My opinion is certainly biased, but...I have carried an MPC for 8 months now (the first one as an ongoing trial)and I can say I am very happy with the results.
First...the N690 Cobalt Stainless Steel is by far the best steel I have ever used in a knife. I have owned virtually every kind of knife steel and MANY,MANY makes and models of knives. Nothing comes close to this steel as to its ability to hold an edge, withstand hard and consistent use, ability to withstand any kind of oxidation or rust (even trying to!), and easy to keep razor sharp.

Second...the .25" thick blade. Yes it is thick. These knives are designed from the ground up as a HEAVY DUTY, HARD USE TACTICAL KNIFE. And that they are...solid a rock with a locking system that is incredibly strong, and completly ambidextrous!!

If you want a knife to do super fine cutting tasks then this may not be the knife for you...but if you want one of the strongest knives available and one that you will not have ro replace...then this is the blade for you.

PLEASE EXUSE ME...SOMETIMES I GET WOUND UP...But I am a true believer!!

Please feel free to call me if you want to discuss anything further!

Did you have too much Italian coffee again Frank? :D

He's biased, but right -- they are some sweet blades, both fixed and folding. ;)

I am impressed with my MPC folder so far and yes, bombproof is a good analogy. As far as the folders go, take all the hyperbole and bylines from every one of the production tactical knife makers, and some custom ones, and you can apply them all to this line of knives in earnest. These are knives you need to handle to understand.

The lockup on this is one I have implicit faith in - beats your standard lockback, framelock and liner lock all rolled up into one. This does become the proverbial fixed blade. You've got 1/4" thick worth of solid steel contacting more 1/4" thick solid steel completely. You've got a thumb rest area that actually reinforces the lock further as you bear down on it (not that it needs it) And if that's not enough, you can physically throw a safety onto the lock, in either the open or closed position.

MPC stands for Multi-Purpose Combat folder. It's a hard use folder that lives up to the name of hard use. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, as it's design is very military in a modern sort of look. Sort of like what the Marines in Aliens II would have carried, or what Arnie the terminator would pull from his jeans.

For me, it's a nice addition to my other knives and I will be looking forward to challenging it in the outdoors soon.

The more you know about these knives the more you gotta RESPECT their design & quality !! Not so much for being delicate cutters, but for if I get my butt in a sling knife. WOW :)
