I have been thinking about purchashing the CS San Mai III Trailmaster Bowie and was wondering if anyone had any comments, opinions, or experiences with this knife.
Thanks for your input.

I was very fortunate to win one in a draw last year. Here is a link to my description of the knife with a few pics - <A HREF="http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001013.html" TARGET=_blank> http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001013.html </A>
It seems to be a bit of a mystery as to what the steel of San Mai III blades are comprised of. I think they are aus8 between two layers of aus6, but I have never seen anything definite on this. It has a convex edge which is harder to sharpen than a "conventional" edge. I find it to be a bit too large a knife for my liking and have opted for a Busse Basic 7 for my "camp knife" instead. Here is another interesting post.http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001800.html

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the reply and for the links. You are one lucky guy to win that knife.
(I would be happy to win any knife!!)
It was great to read all the comments,on the threads, about this knife.
On the subject of the blade materials, I too called CS and talked to a rep who just kept saying over and over that the knife had a high carbon center layer with two harder stainless outer layers. He could not tell me (or was not supposed to)actually which materials were used. I found this strange since I have purchased other CS knives and have always been happy with the customer service supplied. They always had a answer for me.
As for the Kraton handle, I happen to like the feel and the look but do worry about it loosening if the knife is used too hard.
I thank you for your opinion on the Busse #7.
Others have also suggested the #9 as a compatible to the Trailmater.I will have to check them out also.

Thanks again,

I didn't get the impression that the customer service guys at Cold Steel were trying to hide anything - I think they just don't know.
It's also a mystery to me why they don't have a presence on these or other forums.
