I decided to make some wharncliffes, which is something I have never done before.

Which one of these versions is the best? Ignore the tangs, with all of the random holes. Just tell me which one has the best profile along the spine. Is it better to have a rounded shape or a more squared off shape?

These are .108" thick.
OAL: 5 5/8"
Average blade length: 2 1/4"

How wide is a good bevel width here?

I appreciate your thoughts.

I prefer the middle one if it's going to be a work knife. Looks the most similar to a standard sheepsfoot blade.

Hollow grinds? I like #2. I have never liked fuller squared off warnies. I think this profile allows the best leverage for getting your off hand on top of the blade to push through something. But I am no expert.

I kinda like 'em all. Nice work, OP!

I think it would be cool to see a fourth Wharncliffe with a splinter-picker tip...

Thanks for the feedback. These will all be flat-ground. I don't have any tools to make hollow grinds.

I like the looks of the one in the middle best. Extending the top of the blade out adds some strength to the tip that the third one doesn't have.

I would like #3 best if the transition of the spine to the tip were more acute. Make that spine drop a little quicker and it'll be perfect.

"Swedged" is a "swayed back" look, right?

I looked it up, and the definition said "hammered." I don't think that's what it means, in relation to knife profiles.

It means a slight (primarily decorative) bevel added to the spine of the knife.

The one in the middle looks more like a sheepsfoot than a wharncliffe... I like the bottom one.

Re-profiled them. I didn't have a clear favorite before, but now I like the bottom one best.
