I am looking to get some feedback on a knife i have been working on. It will be a charity auction if its well recieved. I have left the heat treat scale on for now and im looking for feedback regarding the finish. I can leave it as is, satin, beadblast or satin the blade and leave the heat treat effect eveywhere else. The sheath will be kydex with a tek lok (large). The kydex can be green, black, brown or carbon fiber. I could do leather but its my least favorite sheath to make. 100% of the proceeds will go to the stolley childrens hospital just like my last one. I will list the knife in the appropriate forum here as well as instagram. Handles are blasted black canvas micarta with blasted hardware. Steel is cpm 154 at 59.5 HRC. All feedback is welcome. I want this knife to be the best it can be so it will raise as much as possible. I apologize if this is not the correct place to post this. 20190105_161656.jpg 20190105_161702.jpg 20190105_161731.jpg 20190105_161744.jpg

In one of the pics it looks like the scales are ground unevenly on the back of the handle. Here are some detail pics of that area that show everything is square and symmetrical.

I think it looks outstanding and my personal preference would be satin finish with a CF sheath. Also where will it be posted for auction?
It will be posted in the knifemakers for sale area under fixed blades. Ill include a link to it in this thread when its ready. Thanks for the feedback. The knife needs about a half days work to be done. I will wait until i have a few opinions before i proceed.

I would go satin all around and polish the scales up a bit, with a carbon fiber kydex. Very nice knife, good work

Thanks for the feedback. I have the scales blasted to increase grip. When you polish them they get smoother and lose some texture. If enough people prefer polished i can definitely do it. My intention for this knife was to be a user that would do well in a variety of conditions.

In my limited experience with fund raisers, the nicer looking the knife is the more it will fetch.
I saw a Henry Golden Boy .22 sell for double the normal price wher the Ruger.22 go slightly above normal price. I’d think nice satin finish on the flats with polished handle edges would be desirable to still use or collect. IMO, it’s gotta have a leather sheath.

Satin or mirror finish on the blade, or just leave as is. Go rough on the handle.

For the sheath, kydex type would be unimportant to me as long as it's designed well.

...would like blade thickness and length to grip...also OAL of knife. Ajack60 is right that "pretty" might get more money, but I gotta have a grip that doesn't slide out of my hand...
Very nice work...it should do well.

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far satin and cf kydex seems the most popular. I thought the heat treat scale could be cool but it doesnt seem to popular. Ill try to get it done right away and post up some new pics for any final feedback. I think ill leave the handles as is for now.

Well it seems no one was too fond of the heat treat scale. I put a satin finish on the blade and i have to say you guys were right. It does look better. If all goes well ill put a proper edge and a logo on it tomorrow. Ill also do the cf sheath. Ill post all relevant info in the auction thread. Hopefully this goes well. If it does i plan to do more charity knives in the future. I left the scales blasted because i really like the grip it provides.

After seeing the blade cleaned up I think the scales are just fine. I think it added to the ruggedness when the blade was “rough” but now highlights the lines of the knife a lot better :thumbsup:

It's a beautiful knife, and I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's all complete. Glad that you left the scales alone, as having a good grip is important and it still looks great.
