i don't hear much about the BAS model on the forum, what is everyone's opinion of them, what are they best suited for? been thinking of getting one.

I don't personally have one, but looking at the kukri dynamics page and around in general, it looks very similar in shape to the WW2 model which used to be all the rage... the main difference difference that I'm seeing is that the secondary bevel seems to be longer, and thus steeper. This would make it like a WW2, but capable of deeper cuts. I'm sure you'd be very satisfied with such a khukri :)

My first kukri was a BAS model. Though not from H.I. The BAS is a very good general purpose knife. It would make a fantastic, tough knife for camping use as well as for survival duties. I prefer the 18" M-43 because of it's enhanced abilities, but the BAS will perform very well indeed in all categories. It provides very good chopping ability for a kukri its size without as much weight as the Ang Kholas.

If I order an M43 off the HI website can I be confident that it will be an 18 inch model, or is there some variation in length or/and size depending on the Kami? And if so should I ask Yangdu when I place my order specifically for an 18 incher wood handle ect.... or would that be considered a special order??
thanks

I'd always make it a rule to email Yangdu with what you're asking for. She will tell you if she has one or if she'd have to order it.

Wolfenhawk. All M-43's are 18" that is the standard size in that model. Now mind ya each blade is different, might go a little over or a little under, but not by much.

Email Yangdu. Tell her what model and handle material you want. Whether you want a certain Kami's work etc. She'll get back to ya quick as she can ( usualy way quicker than any other business you've ever dealt with).
