I just received an E-mail, from a Yahoo ISP address, with the following text:

Hello Maria,

The tracking number you provided is not good. I called USPS and the tracking number you provided does not exist. Please let me know the real situation. My son birthday will be in 4 days and the bike I bought from you is not yet here. At lest let me know so I can buy something else. Please reply ASAP.

Thank you

There is no Maria in my household. I have never sold a bike on EBay or anywhere else. Of course, the temptation is to fire off a reply stating this.
But, are there potential hazards in doing so? What do you computer gurus think?

No one by that name there.
never sold anything....

simply fishing for a live email addy so they can spam you.

Delete.

yep, a scam. Is there an Ebay link within that email? I get those, and there is usually a link in the email to log onto your Ebay account, but of course it's all a scam, a way for them to get your password.

Well, if there is an auction site number (I had a similiar experience with ebay), some fine individual may have stolen your information and offered a buyer a "deal" in your "name."

If so, report the information to the auction site. If there is a name associatted with the message, search the auction site, also(is it real?).

Oh yeah, never use ebay links in emails. Go through your own ebay access only. There are some real crafty dic......s, I mean individuals, out there.

I get hundreds of those. I bet if you look at the recipient field you'll see it's not addressed to you. Sometimes there are a couple of hundred addresses, mike@aol.com, mike@hotmail.com, mike@earthlink.com, etc. More often these days there's just one address visible (but it's not yours) and the others are hidden.

It's also possible it is addressed to you. Some spammers use software that sends out individual messages to thousands of possible recipients, but I haven't seen so much of that lately.

Yes, it's addressed to me. I don't think that there are many Bolwevls out there.:D

No E-bay links or numbers. In any case, it's deleted. Thanks.

More Imortant... Is Maria Hot? If So, Ebay The Bike Seat With A Scratch N' Sniff Label.

Geniustically Yours,
Vampire Gerbil
