i`m loking at buying a pentagon elite and i want a few opinions before i outlay the cash as it will cost me $175 australian dollars . i collect knives and have begun collecting huge folders

If you're talking "huge" folders, I presume you refer to the Pentagon Elite II. Excellent folder, in my opinion. Ergonomic handle that offers secure grip, yet is not so "grippy" that it won't slide into & out of pocket or waistband smoothly. Sharp, strong blade (especially durable tip design).

Easy-opening? The Arc-Lock and the long, heavy blade combine to make inertial opening effortless. The thumb studs are easy to "roll" open, too.

Once deployed, the Arc-Lock is extremely strong and reliable.

I have no criticisms, and I also own mega folders from a number of other name manufacturers (Camillus, AMK, Cold Steel, Benchmade, etc.).

The PE II is a lot of bang for the buck!

The PE-II is a sweet knife!! Mine sits in a Custom leather sheath when not in use. I can open and close it by manipulating the lock and flicking my wrist. When opened it balences just behind the arc-lock. Mainly I use mine to open plastic bags or food wrapers and cut the occational steak. But once in a while I use it out side to trim the flowers and bushes, it can handle some light brush work. :)

I really like the knife and think it's worth every penny. :D Please let us know what you do with it after you get it. ;)

It's one of those knives that they ruined by putting a plastic handle on it. It's marvelous, other than that.

yeah i`m considering buying one , but maybe just the 4" model as its seems slightly less unwieldly then the 5'' one . i would also love a vision , but cash is extremely limited these days.

I've had the PE I (4" blade) for 3 years now and really like the knife.

I have used it quite hard, just too the point of abuse. Easy to keep sharp and good lock.

It is pretty intimidating because of the size, so be careful where you pull it out. Sharpest knife (out of the box) I've ever purchased.

The Arc-Lock od almost switchblade fast.

SOG is a very good company that makes very good stuff.

yeah i`m gonna buy one when i get the cash . it will be mostly for personal protection anyway

I have an old model of Pentagon Elite with liner lock. I carry this knife for SD purposes so almost don't use it for regular cutting tasks. Really like the shape of the blade and think that habdle is rather good for SD purposes.

I recently got the chance to handle a PE I, the 4 inch one. While I liked the ergos and the blade shape and lock, I found the handle to be somewhat less than confidence inspiring.
Holding the knife in a pinch grip I could make the liners 'squish' together several milimeters, almost making them touch. White-knuckling the knife, produced a visible shifting of the handle. I could feel it compress under my grip.
Holding the blade in one hand and the handle in the other and applying only gentle pressure was enough to make the blade not center when closing the knife. And I do mean gentle. Performing the same maneuver with other knives in my possession did not result in this kind of misalignment.
On the up side, the lock never failed and remained rock solid. The handle just felt like those steel liners weren't even there. A Spyderco Endura has a stiffer handle!

Very disappointed over all. And I had been contemplating buying one for a long time. Now... Not so much.

but you may have gotten a bad example . i dont know i`ve never even handled one. thanks 4 the opinion anyway.
