Guys,

I got a Marlin 336 XLR in .35 Rem last year...and as you know...the stock sights suck!!!!

I don't want tang sights, or something monstrous sticking off the reciever...I have an EO-TEC...but don't like it....I wish it had crosshairs....sOOOOO

What can you recommend, and if a scope.....which one? I only use quality(Leupold) optics....but don't want a big tube hanging off this rather handy firearm.

TIA for the help.

Best Regards,

I have not used these myself but have heard a lot of people really like them. It is a peep style sight that uses your existing mounting holes. I like peep sights, or ghost ring sights. This might be an alternative to anything too large. I completely understand the use of a scope on a rifle but to me, lever guns just don't look right with them. Plus, a scope messes up the whole reason I like a lever gun.....the ease of carrying one. Put a scope on it and it just doesn't carry the same.

Same here, thanks for the link...I have an account with Brownell's and will consider it.

I hunt short range with a good bit of brush so I use a scpoe to find a hole in the brush."Brush busting " is pure BS !!! ANY bullet can deflect even had my 45-70 deflect !! I've used a Leupold 1x4 for years and it's perfect for my application. If it's cross hairs are not thick enough for you , you can have them install shotgun crosshairs or just buy a shotgun 1x4 scope....For iron sights I've always used patridge sights 1/8" suare post and 1/8" square notch . I also recommend a good ghost ring with 1/8" square post and 3/16" hole.

SDS hit it right on the head, on that gun a peep sight would be great. the problem with scoping a rifle like that is it takes away what makes the rifle so great to begin with, it's handy and pretty much bulletproof. just my .02
if i had to scope it i'd go with a good quality 1" tube fixed 4 power.

There is also a company from Alaska called WildWest (I think), that makes some very durable receiver sights. They have small wings on the sides to protect the apperature. IIRC Brownells also sells these
