i am thinking about picking up a boker optima. has anyone owned one of these. it almost seems like a no brainer.

i am just wondering how strong the lockup is since you can replace the blades easily.

A knife with a generous grip for hard use with a 4 mm thick hollow-ground 440-C stainless steel locking blade. The metal handle parts are sintered from one piece of nickel silver, resulting in a tough but elegant design. The blades of the OPTIMA series are quickly and easily interchangeable. They transform the one-part knife into a multifunctional knife with a variety of use options.

Closed length 4 3/4" (12 cm.) Blade 3 5/8" (9 cm.) Approximate Weight 7.7 ozs. (220 g.)

I used to own one a few years ago. It was a very stout knife and was very well made. The one I had was a three blade set I think. It had the clip point blade, a gut hook blade, and a drop point ceramic blade. My knife also had the grey bone handles like in the picture. I never really used mine very much, just admired it and kept it in my collection. Some hard times forced me to sell it off. I wish I still had it. I think you'll be very satisfied with it if you get one.

With the blade at a 90 degree angle to the handle like in the second picture that you posted, you push the lock bar all of the way down and then slide your blade in or out over the pivot pin. I hope that is a clear explanation.

Take care. Heath
