optimal height for grinder

Hello everyone! I just got a new grinder this week from one of our fellow forum members, and I am planning on making a custom pedestal to mount it on. I was wondering what is the optimal height to mount it? More specifically, where should the center of the contact wheel come to in relation to your body? I know there are probably several different approaches with pros and cons to each.

There is no set height for this. It's basically whatever is comfortable for you.
That said, I would suggest that you place it so that when standing with your elbows locked in to your sides, and your forearms extended horizontally, your hands will be at the contact wheel.
That is a good position to hollow grind, and provides a lot of support. :)

I Set when I grind,I feel I can get a good lock at my sides and use my upper body to support the blade,One thing I have found out.
it is alot eaiser on your back.I have ground standing and setting
So do what is comfortable for you, there are as many was to grind
as there is makers.

It is related to your height, I am 5'7" and my height for grinding is 32" to the center of the contact wheel. Measure from the floor to your elbow and add 1". This is the ideal height for stand up grinding.

I can't stand as close to my grinder as I used to. Its also getting harder and harder to see from that distance but I can't see too close either! My body is starting to betray me! :D

Like the others said, it depends on how tall (or short) you are. About belly button height is a good STARTING point.
