This one had to have been put away wet.... literally. Salt Water perhaps?
If it was furniture, you would pay extra for the "distressed" look.
 
It looks like that one got used as a salt water bait knife and put away wet for sure...would probably still be a good boat knife with a fresh edge on it...
 
I've got a few designated garage knives solely for hard use. That one of yours would end up in the garage if it was mine. :)
