Hey everyone,

So I was in a local store today and seen the Benchmade 15015 skinner. I played around with it for awhile are really got to like it and it's sheath, however because of personal reasons I really didn't want to pull the trigger on this one. So I thought I'd ask you on the forum.

What other knives are out there that are of similar size, leather sheath that the knife drops in, and similar shape? Price point would be around $100.00.

Thanks for the help.

Kershaw skyline fixed blade, Buck packlite, Blackjack necker, and check out blind horse knives too

Not sure what you're huntin/skinnin but I hunt whitetail deer in New York State and I gotta say I love the izula. Light, compact, great sheath, nothing that hasn't already been said hundreds of times about the izula. Plus the $50-60 price point will leave you enough to grab some nice scales for it ;P

Kershaw 1080 skinner, and izula are another option in that shape. Both are half or less than the benchmade.

Some good ideas so far. I have an izula but I haven't found a very good way to carry it on my belt. Is there a leather sheath that will fit the izula? I really like a good leather sheath. The Kershaw 1080 skinner looks interesting.

Thanks so far.

Buck Vanguard, and then track down the leather sheath for the Buck Zipper (usually available on auction sites). Less than $100 for the whole kit. I use mine when hunting goats and it goes great.

I agree completely, my buck zipper has skinned and gutted many hogs, it will take a razor edge and hold it and the grip is awesome. Trust me it won't let you down as a hunting knife.

As a trapper I skin coons, bobcat and fox. My best skinner is a Russel Green River paring knife. About 3 1\2 in. blade w\ Axis handles I made.

How about a Fallkniven WM1, was originally designed for game prep? Comes with zytel sheath, but you can get an after market leather sheath.

I 2nd the Izula. Or the Becker bk-14 or bk-11 with the price point you could get scales for either one and a nice kydex or leather sheath.

Why not the BM? It's in your price range and the D2 is excellent. My buddy has the caper and it's a great knife in the field. Otherwise, the buck packlite skinner, Vanguard (great hunting knife btw), or Izula.

Ok. Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll keep looking into the knives everyone brought up. As for the comment about why not a BM, well it's not BM that is my problem, I have many actually. My reluctance is toward the other side.

Thanks again for the help.

While a bit on the high side, I believe the Fallkniven H1 would make a fantastic skinner. Also on a more reasonable note, the Becker BK15 is within your price range and features a nice, thin pointy blade suitable for skinning, though it's large for my taste.

Ah, I get it. The Knives of Alaska trekker (Elk Hunter model) series look good. I have one of their D2 knives and the steel is excellent, especially for field dressing and skinning. In your price range, size, and blade steel. I think they're an underrated knife for hunting use (at least here on BF).

Or you could go with a Condor Nessmuk, Kephart, Tavian & Sub Tavian, Woodlaw, Bushcraft Basic in 3 sizes, Sapien , Bushlore, Mini Bushlore. They are cheap in dollars but high in value. Will probably need to be sharpened, thats about all. I LOVE my Condor's.

Great suggestions! I'll be taking a hard look at all the knives posted. I have Vanguard and really like it. I guess I should have specified one other thing, the size. When I was playing around with the BM 15015 I was surprised how much knife was there for the size. I guess that is what I am more or less looking for. I forgot about the mini bushlore!

Thanks
