Options for EDC while on base?

Just graduated Navy basic training and now I'm at school for a few months. The rules here on base as far as carrying a knife are as follows:
Must be 3" or less
Can not be assisted open
Can not be fixed blade

I don't abuse my knives, and to be honest I hardly do much hard work with them. I've just always enjoyed a good knife and liked to keep one in my pocket. This'll be in my pocket while I'm essentially working, so nothing real fancy, but something nice, respectable.

Have you checked to see what they sell at your exchange on base? How much do you want to spend?

The Nex doesn't have much to offer. With this being a training base its not as big as most.
Somewhere around $100-150 would probably be my max for what I'm looking for.

Spyderco Sage or Dragonfly. Benchmade Mini Griptilian. Those are just a couple off the top of my head.
Thank you for serving.

I work on Whiteman airforce base in Missouri as a civilian contractor, I've always carried my zt0350, and others and have never had any problems so far, get searched often enough and guards are always polite and talkative about knives and such.

Spuderco, benchmade and Kershaw have a few to pick from. The Kershaw assisted models can be deassisted.

All the exchanges I've shopped at (overseas only), usually have Spyderco Enduras, Tenacious, and Delicas as well as Benchmade Griptilians. Aside from that its mostly Gerber and SOG. Lots of the service men and women I work with carry Griptilians, and they seem to love Benchmades in general. Take a look at a Mini Grip if you're restricted on size, if you want to be different look at a Spyderco Native or similar.

I graduated from Navy Boot in Great Lakes, and went on to school in Millington Tennessee.

First, thank you for your service to our country, young man (or young lady, I don't know which). Your selfless service is the stuff that this great country is made of.

I packed a Case SodBuster Junior back when I was in A-School. It wasn't "Tactically Threatening", it wasn't expensive, and it didn't raise an eyebrow when it exited the pocket. It cut everything that a budding sailor needs to cut in A-School, and it was light and slim enough that you didn't even know it was there. No pocket clip hanging out, no sharp edges.

I don't know where you are stationed, but a good knife shop should be close enough for you to go a-shopping. Good luck and enjoy your adventure.

Thank you.

I'm still up here in Great Lakes, but not at RTC where boot is held. Dive prep begins here for two months then on to Panama City Beach for four months for dive school.
I'll if I can find a knife shop close to browse some options, or maybe peruse eBay. It's just a pain getting off base. You have to sign out with two buddies and be in dress uniform and call a taxi. Bleh.

Heheheh... I remember that pain in the ass well. But I soon realized that if I wanted to experience the outside world, a taxi / dress blues / couple buddies was just gonna have to be the way it was. And you know what? Me and those buddies remember that time in our lives very fondly.

It's been a LONG while since I finished boot, and a couple years since I visited that stomping grounds. But the best way to find a good knife shop is to ask that taxi driver that picks you up. They know the Waukegan / North Chicago area about as well as anybody. Give it a go and see what you find. Neat area to explore. Trolly Dogs in Kenosha has the best hot dogs, BTW. Enjoy the hunt, I think you'll have fun at it.
