Before we start discussing the options lets go ahead and get rid of the things that are not possible.

1. No new colors, blade and handle colors have to be already in use by RAT
2. No new blade shapes
3. No new handle shapes
4. No new sheath designs, I believe we can pick between tan, black, and OD though.

Just post what you would like to see on the RC-3 forum knife and in about a week or two we can have a couple of polls to decide logo, engravings, blade color, blade material, handle material, handle color, and sheath color.

So here is a simple list of things we need to decide on,
1. blade steel
2. blade color (or lack of)
3. logo
4. engravings
5. handle material
6. handle color
7. sheath color

Also to keep it nice and simple why don't we go down the list one item at a time and start with blade steel.

Ok so 1095 or 440C

1095
pros
1. Easy to sharpen IMO
2. Holds an edge
3. relatively inexpensive
4. Rowen heat treat is top notch

Cons.
1. it rusts

440C, admittedly I don't know much about this steel except it is stainless.

:D how about we cover this one item at a time to avoid a huge mess,

(Although I'm hoping for PE 1095, OD blade, Tan micarta handles, RAT pack and RP#s and I like the RAT logo just the way it is)

440 C with the right heat treat works great as well, I do own a knife with that steel and it might be a tad harder to sharpen, but as long as you do not reprofile the blade, it is really only barely noticable.

I'd say, it'd be great, if we all test it for RAT, they have a good basis to say wether or not they want to use it for other knifes as well. That would be a true win-win situation with a RatPack knife as RAT already announced this will be with a discount.

This way, we give something back.

hwpaintballer, I think the best bet to getting a general design (materials/coloration) would be to make another poll with the several designs suggested.

From what I've seen the black blade + orange G10 and OD green blade + tan micarta and 440C + w/e handle seem to be the major design choices popping up.

Too many random designs keep popping up to get a general concept down, in all honesty.

Brainstorming is random. Now we get serious.

These do seem like the popular choices. What is "w/e handle"?

Anyway...I think it would be cool as hell to have the limited RAT Pack forum knife also be the first use of a different steel.

I do not have much experience with 440C, though I imagine that it can be pretty good, especially with the Rowan magic applied. Randall has been using 440B for years, with seemingly few complaints. A satin finish RAT would be sweet.

I also think that it would be fine as a 1095. We all know how good that it. No satin finish 1095 though. The powdercoat looks good and is tough as hell.

I am cool either way.

1. Steel - 1095
2. Blade color - Black
3. RAT PACK logo
4. RAT PACK number
5. Scale material - Micarta
6. Scale color - Black or green
7. Sheath color - Black or O.D.

RAT PACK 67

w/e = whatever, sorry for not clarifying but I saw a lot of different handle choices for the 440C so I didn't get specific.

1. Steel - 1095
2. Blade color - Naked with a flat back edge for firesteel
3. RAT PACK logo
4. RAT PACK number
5. Scale material - Micarta
6. Scale color - Tan
7. Sheath color - Tan

For blade steel, 1095 will be easier to sharpen, but 440C works great on this size knife.

IMO the engraving will stand out more/better on a coated blade, so I'll vote 1095.

1. Steel - CPM3V
2. Blade color - Satin w/a nicely squared spine for striking a firesteel, or a pommel similar to the RC3 MIL, but with squared off edges.
3. Black Skull & Crossbones logo inside the RAT Triangle (laser etched)
4. RAT PACK number
5. Scale material - Textured Blk/Red Carbon Fiber
6. Scale color - Blk/Red
7. Sheath color - Crimson

Haha, people are coming up with some pretty crazy suggestions, let's try and keep it within the parameters we were given, remember this is a favor they're doing us.

hwpaintballer..... I posted a poll at the top...if you would please , if your going to toss ideas out there please sticky the page so I can find it(I know I am running behind or not up at wee hours )... if you dont it works its way down the page and peeps should not hafta look for it.
Thanks
