O.K., I have been using epoxy for my first couple of knives (5-minute.) I was going to pick up some Devcon 2-ton, but I was wondering what options there are that I don't have to send away for. I am interested in what everyone uses, even if you send away for it, but I'd particularly like to hear what people use other than epoxy to make their knives. Thanks!!! Oh, to all who have heard of my Magic Knot Knife project, it is comming along!

Crayola, I've found that epoxy is suseptable to heat and vibration, so I use Dap Weldwood contact cement on my full tang knives. Heat of vibration doesn't bother it, and it sticks so strong, you have to hammer a thin knife blade between the tang and handle to remove it. I put a thin coat on both surfaces after roughing them up with 60 grit and cleaning them with alcohol, and let it get tacky and then put the knife together. You have a second or two to get the parts lined up. I have never had a handle get lose with this stuff, much less come off. I still use epoxy on hidden tang knives. Take care! Michael

Here is something different and cheaper than epoxy and will stand up to if not better than epoxy. Get some auto body fiber glass
and the hardner, and mix them and see how that sets up for you.

I started out using epoxy also but got away from it because of the expense. I switch to acraglas and have been very happy with the results. It allows you more working time and set up like a rock. It's also resistant to water, heat and is shock resistant.
If you do use it don't buy it from a gun store, it's VERY expensive that way, you can order it through Brownells and if you're a business can get a very good discount.
Since they sell it in bulk you'll need some way to measure it PRECISELY. I use vet. syringes (without the needle). You can get them from most farm supply stores. They're graduated and most of all CHEAP. Just wipe them off after use and they last a long time.
Hope this helps.
Jon
