What kind of laws govern knife carry, like size and type, I own a M16-13T and plan on buying a 156 CSK from benchmade, I would like to be able to carry the CRKT in my pocket clipped and the 156CSK in a backpack with some lights and other random useful stuff.

per california penal code, a folder in your pocket, in the closed position is fine. as long as you are not on any school campus, including colleges and universities. same would apply in your backpack, though there is no specific section covering this.

a fixed blade must be carried in a sheath openly suspended from a belt. if it is partly covered it is considered concealed. in a backpack a fixed blade is a no-no.

also check municipal laws and county laws. a google search for orange county knife laws should direct you to the right place. and the individual city as well, ie tustin, anaheim, etc, will have their own laws pertaining to knife carry.

Well put!

I've been struggling to make sure I know EXACTLY what the law is before the hubby and I take the kids to Disneyland in June!! Thanks for making it easy to understand!

glad i could help. disneyland is private property, though, and have their own rules. i believe they search purses and bags and sometimes wand patrons.

they should have rules posted or available at the park.

it is also my understanding that even anaheim pd is not allowed to carry a firearm while uniformed inside the park unless they have been invited in.

Yeah, I've been reading stuff online .. they DO search purses, backpacks, etc. Haven't heard anything about wanding though. I figure my Spyderco Native will most likely be hanging out in the hotel room .. :(

I haven't yet decided for sure about my SAK. I hate to not have it with me. I am female, but I started carrying it in my pocket a couple of months ago, and it would just not feel "right" if I didn't have it.

I'll keep a Stinger in my pocket, a spare in my backpack (not bothering with a purse this trip); I'll have a Surefire G2 in a belt sheath made by Normark; a couple of steel pens - pocket, backpack... That will most likely be it.

When NOT in the park, the Native will reside IN my other pocket, because I don't think I can have it in the belt sheath ??

Anyway, that's what it's looking like.

I REALLY appreciate your help though!

Just keep anything concealed, they do search every bag, and being the "happiest place on earth" would frown upon "weapons" of any sort, but I have never been know them to search you, I want to say I brought a folder when I went with band for a parade, after a day in the park, but I am not entirely sure, there were a couple of times that I didn't own a folder cuz I lost one, but they shouldn't wand you. Though they might be more inclined to if you had a lgiht in a holster, I would chuck that in a bag, then after you are in the park put it on your belt.

nice, a woman after my own heart!! ;)

I was there last year and actually asked about the policy. I was told a knife with less than a 3" blade was okay. But they didn't wand you anyway. May have changed since then though.

oh man, serious hardware for disneyland. But I'm glad somebody asked the question. I wouldn't want to get in trouble for walking around with my SOG SAT II flash. I don't really carrying knives on my belt but that bit of info on that helps a ton. I don't usually carry a messenger bag with my G2 and a spare knife in it. I have been in the market for a good sized light with a pocket clip on it. any advice? Oh and, what are the age limits for carrying knives. I'm curious.

generally, if you are an adult, you should be fine with a folder. a fixed blade must be clearly visible on your belt, and mickey and minnie might frown on that.

as far as the light, i use a surefire c3, med size, but with the bulb upgrade to 200 lumens, very bright. also has a pocket clip. the c2 is a bit smaller, but also a very good light.

Wow - more good info!

65535 - Thanks, yes, it sounds like concealed is definitely the way to go! I'll keep the G2 in my pack until it's getting dark, then put it on my belt.

morimotom - You made me blush!

Gadgetman7 - That was helpful too, I made note of it. I've read stories online about people losing SAKs because they were noticed on the way into the park .. makes me nervous!

I think I will stick to my game plan .. still deciding on the Native .. I shouldn't need anything while there or walking to and from the hotel, but you never know!

The best knife is the one you have with you when you need one!

Thanks again, all!!
