What is the texture like on the ESEE orange G10? I'm thinking about a 4, and really like the OD blade, but it is not available with canvas micarta. I have searched but can not find much feedback on the G10 vs. canvas micarta. Is the texture of the G10 similar to Spyderco's, or smoother, as it appears in pics? For those who have used both, any preferences?

Hi
I have found the G10 on the Esee is smoother than on a spyderco, it is easy to keep clean and I found no problems with grip with wet or dry hands.
Dale at The Knife Connection offers custom G10 handles and you can buy a blank blade and select what combo you like. I havn't tried them but others here give them a big thumbs up.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Richard

the orange g10 is plenty grippy, i've used it and the canvas they both work well.

It's not as grippy as the Micarta, but it's good enough. I like the buttery feel of the G10, and the orange has been growing on me more and more. I gave my orange ESEE-4 to my pop, but I may have to visit it soon now that we're talking about it. ;)

Sovereign, if you live near a store that carries ESEE (there are a couple close to me, it's great!) then it would be well worth feeling them for yourself. I would say if the orange appeals to you more than go for it, but if you want a "grippier" handle then you may want to reconsider the G10 and get Micarta.

Like I said, if you can, go test drive some first.

Great knives either way. :)

the orange g10 on my spyderco military is a little grippier than the orange g10 on my esee-4 and in turn the g10 esee-4 is a little grippier than the micarta on my regular esee-4.

they are all too slippery for me still though. i want it a lot rougher like say, 20 lpi checkering on a front strap of a 1911 if you're into guns.

I have an Ontario RD 6 with orange g-10 scales on it and I loooove it. Since I got it, I have been trying to get g-10 scales on all new knives I purchase.

G10 feels great and pretty good grip. Micarta is a little better but I just really like G10 haha. But with ESEE all their knives feel great in hand and really just lock into your hand so even though the G10 isn't quite as grippy I think it's still great and you will be satisfied either way
