Orange Handles vs. Micarta

OK. So one of the things that have attracted me to ESEE is the Micarta. Conversely, I really like the Orange and OD Green models. I have discovered what you all already know, that the orange scales are not micarta but D2...some sort of high impact plastic I presume.

How do those materials compare for grip and durability and whatnot in your experiences?

Thanks.

G10 is a very compressed resin. it is warm to the touch and very strong and is grippier when wet. micarta is layered fabric, linen canvas etc. and it is also gripper when wet also very strong really i dont think you would notice the difference they are both very high quality. either one would be a good choice.

As GD mentioned they are G10 (D2 is a steel).

I have had no issue with the G10 scales on my 3. My other RAT/ESEE knives are linen micarta and I've seen no real difference in the grip. I would like to try the canvas micarta of the ESEE-3MIL though.

I wish I had asked this question before I bought by RC-4. I really wanted the orange and green but ended up getting black because I thought the G10 would be kind of slippery. Don't get me wrong, I love the knife I have, but I wish I were better educated at the time. If I ever get an ESEE-3 it will probably be the orange variety.

I EDC a Benchmade folder that has G10 scales but I like the Micarta better. When my HEST comes in I'm going to try switching to that for my every day carry.

Yeah I knew I had that wrong. I am just starting to learn about steel and I sure don't know anything about plastic.

I am going orange...there is just something cool about that orange and green combination.

I'll be getting a gray and black RC-6 too so I will experience both.

Thanks.
